Because prolonged field care (PFC) is now recognized as an area of key emphasis for education and training internationally in SOF medicine, our Prolonged Field Care section has several boxes to choose from based on topic. US Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) initiated the PFC working group, as part of the 2013 USSOCOM strategic plan, and partnered with academia to produce guidance and position papers. Those initiatives require transformation into practical applications in educating and training medics at the unit level to augment clinical practice.
With renewed interest in prolonged field care (PFC), point-of-care ultrasonography (POCUS) has regained a lot of attention in Special Operations medicine. As an incredibly versatile diagnostic and monitoring tool, it can be successfully applied to guide critical care in the austere settings, despite serious logistic limitations. It can also help you solve a number of operational dilemmas. In many ways, ultrasound is a force multiplier in Special Ops medicine.
JSOM and SOFsono.org are starting a series of case-based POCUS education tidbits. JSOM will provide you with a brief introduction to the case. A more-detailed discussion with live clips and images will follow at SOFsono.org. Join doc Poston (SFC William H. Poston, 18D) and doc Hampton (Katarzyna [Kasia] Hampton, MD) as they help you up your sono-skills.

It's Camp Time!
Summer camp is for youth ages 7-16 with bleeding disorders. Ages 17-18 should apply to the Leader in Training module. July 15-20, 2016. Siblings of those with bleeding disorders camp August 10-14.
Teen Leadership Summit
Apply for our new, one week teen summit to be held at the HFSC office. Only 4-6 teens will be chosen. August 1-5, 2016. Application due June 30, 2016. Email info@hemosocal.org re: "Teen Summit App".
Eligibility requirements include:
Must have a bleeding disorder
Must be entering 10th, 11th or 12th grades
Must reside in HFSC counties (Los Angeles, Orange, Santa Barbara, Ventura, San Luis Obispo, Riverside, San Bernardino, Kern)
Must complete an application including a statement of interest, transcript, and one recommendation
Teens involved with HFSC will be given priority
Join us for an extraordinary, one week program teaching leadership, empowerment and advocacy for high school students. Participants will work together on an important state project and present to local legislative offices on August 5, 2016. In addition, participants will receive advocacy and career training including public speaking, interviewing and resume writing skills, visit a local HTC, and publish an article in our newsletter, HemophiliAction. All expenses will be paid and participants will be housed in a hotel in Pasadena, located 1 mile from the HFSC office. Made possible by a generous LEAD grant from CSL Behring [info@hemosocal.org]

Lecture: Joyful Remembrance of Lives in Old Suzhou: Unique Paintings of Xie Yousu

Born and based in Suzhou, Mr. Xie Yousu distinguishes himself as an artist specializing in painting lives of ordinary people in old Suzhou. For him, seemingly ordinary and trivial activities in life best serve as ideal subjects of fine arts. The poignancy and humor with which he paints his people carrying on with their lives - whether as recreation or profession - are nothing short of memorable. At his lecture, Mr. Xie will present some of his most fascinating paintings and share with the attendees how he created these precious works.
This lecture is in Chinese. FREE, but advanced registration is requested.
