Lecture: Moral Standards and Etiquette in Ancient China

Prof. Peng Lin of the Department of History at Tsinghua University in Beijing has given extensive public lectures in and out of China, including CCTV, on ancient Chinese civilization and Confucianism. In this upcoming China Institute Renwen Society lecture, Prof. Peng Lin will discuss how the moral standards and etiquette in ancient China have formed the Chinese value system and conduct. “海科会”创办于1995年，由国务院侨办、中共四川省委、四川省人民政府及欧美同学会共同主办，四川省外事侨务办、成都市委、市政府、四川省委组织部、四川省人力资源社会保障厅、四川省科技厅共同承办，迄今已成功举办13届，是中国西部推动对外人才交流、科技合作的服务平台。2014年10月19-21日举办的2014“海科会”，有来自全球20多个发达国家和地区的387名海外专业人士参会，举办人才和科技合作活动11项、学术交流和对接活动30多场，签订高新科技项目合作协议18个，投资总额76.6亿元。

Join us as actress Tina Chen recounts the fascinating story of three generations of her mother's family and their contributions to the history of China. Learn about a Governor General of six provinces who served under three different Qing Dynasty emperors and the Empress Dowager Tzu Hsi; about his son, an assistant to Sun Yat Sen, who became the first Prime Minister of the Republic of China; and about his granddaughter (Tina Chen's mother), a Cambridge scholar who, after fleeing to Taiwan during the war, took on secret work that she had to hide even from her husband. 南加州以美麗的太平洋海岸線聞名，爾灣加大最近宣布將展開以海洋為主題的教育計畫，利用該校現有的海洋研究資源，與南加州民間組織合作，創造新的海洋保育與教育機會。爾灣加大的OCEANS海洋教育學會，全名是海洋、環境變遷、藝術與海岸學會，由海洋學教授Adam Martiny負責。海洋教育學會將結合該校在生物、工程、藝術、社會科學、法律等方面的學者專家，共同為保育海洋資願的目標努力。同時，學會也計畫與南加州民間組織、中小學合作，提升大眾對海洋的認識。爾灣加大海洋教育學會成員來自該校教育系、法律系、人類學系、藝術系、生物學系、工程學院及理學院的數十位教授。
海洋教育學會將在5月8日舉辦首屆海洋健康會議(Ocean Health Conference)，邀請學者及民間保育組織代表與會，研討有關海洋與健康的主題，有關海洋健康會議詳情可上網站oceans.uci.edu查閱。
