Dear CSA members, colleagues and friends, You are cordially invited to submit a manuscript for the forthcoming 2014 edition(Volume 9)of Academic Perspective 学术展望杂志(ISSN 1936-1246), an annual e-journal published by the Chinese Scholars Association of Southern California(CSA-SC). Authors are encouraged to submit your works(including preliminary research), book reviews, and commentaries in their disciplines and fields. In addition, this volume also includes members’ news to report your relevant activities in the past year. Your manuscript can be in either Chinese or English, with a maximum length of 15 single-spaced pages. The submission deadline is September 15, 2014. Submitted manuscripts will be reviewed by the CSA Editorial Board and/or other invited peer reviewers. Notice of acceptance will be sent to authors after their works are accepted for publication in the Journal. All of the journal articles are freely available to the public online. Authors retain copyrights to their individual articles, hold sole responsibility for their writings, and are welcome to reuse it as they deem appropriate. Make sure that your submissions have no copyright issues. Your manuscript must be a Word document, single spaced, with one-column layout, one-inch margins, Times New Roman font size 12, first-level headings in all capital letters, and second-level headings with first letter in capital. References must be in alphabetical order and be placed at the end of the manuscript. Citations in the text must refer to authors by last name. Please do not use footnotes. 美国扶手恩师葬礼上的沉思 Dr Miller Bust 2005年四月25日上午,我开车两个多小时,由住地前往洛杉矶南端圣彼渚市出席我在80年代接受精神科住院医生培训时的UCLA精神医学部副主管兼其教学医院-港湾医院精神科主任米乐教授 (Milton H Miller, M.D. 1927 - 2005) 的追悼会。到会的人数上千。会堂爆满,大大超过主事单位预估,可见其多年来乐于助人的个方面人事欢迎之程度。追悼会后的家庭聚会上,会到了当年很多的老师和同事,大家都很难过,气氛特别低沉。我不禁悲从中来,情绪失去控制,在众多的来宾面前一度失声痛哭,如丧考妣。 由于葬礼后回家路远,我在家庭聚会活动中较早时离开。我的一个一同出席而在以往在一起受训的同级医生,后来打电话告诉我,我离开后,聚会的人有不认识我的,向她打听我是谁,何以对米教授的去世动情如此之深;她在电话上对我说∶「我对他们说,你从米教授对你的爱护和敬重,看到了你的故国对你长期不公待遇的痛楚。你说是吗?」作为精神科的住院医生,洞察一个人潜意识的活动和想法,正是我们当时所受培训的主要内容之一。作为一个诚实的朋友,我只能默然以对。在相处的那么多年,我的确曾经对她间断地谈到过米教授对我超人且感人的成全美意和关怀之情,以及我在离开大陆前种种不受人羡慕的处境。 在葬礼中我不禁对比我大三岁的教授在我初来美国时胜似亲人之爱的具体情景,像电影一般,一幕一幕在脑海中不断放映到眼前。我在通过美国执照考试后,向米教授任主任的UCLA/港湾医院住院医生培训科提出已经过迟的申请后,他听说我从中国文化革命中的农村下放十年后调回城市不过两年,现已年过五十,从医学院毕业有二十多年,来美国后竟然当年一举通过针对美国现时年青的医生所设计的考试,觉得难以相信,因此在1981年三月破例直接对我亲自进行面试,而非常规由培训科主任进行。后来有人告诉我,因为原有的常规名额已满,只有他作为主任才有权动用额外的指标再加一名。 他对我过去在大陆各方面的情况,问得很仔细,对我的情况做了相当深入的了解。最后,他对我勉励和赞叹有嘉,一再表示,我在那种非常困难的条件下一来到美国就考取医疗执照,「这简直是奇迹」(A miracle, just a miracle)。当场接受了我的申请。 同年五月,美国精神病学会卸任主席、美国精神医学泰斗级人物Judd Marmor教授(注解)应邀到中国访问,顺便在米教授的主持下,来港湾医院收集同行们对其访华之行的建议和问题。米教授特别嘱请科里的一位华裔、林克明医师设法把这个安排转达给我,让我参加。所以我虽然还没有正式成为科里的成员,也有幸得以出席。 会议时间为周三11.00 AM- 12 N。米教授作了会议开场白以后,向大家介绍我是新吸收的住院医生,刚从中国来到美国,云云。要我在会上对目前中国精神病学的现状做一刻钟的背景介绍。这个问题我在来美国前在湖南医学院的精神科接待外国精神医学专家时已经讲过多次,因此老马识途,按所给的时间框架再讲行一次,可谓驾轻就熟。等我讲完后,米教授大概对我的讲话感到满意,当即宣布,把我的学资立即从常规的PG-1提升为PG-II。PG意指Post Graduate (毕业后,其后数字为年级) 。不论实习项目和生活补助费(Stipend)都有相应的改变或提高。作此宣布后他才继续原先的会程。我当时就理解这一宣布对我的重大意义,心中对米教授充满了感激之情和知遇之恩。 我后来听说,以PG-II的待遇开始四年住院医生的培训,在那个医院是从来没有过的先例。米乐教授对我这样破例又破格的爱护和尊敬,与故国领导对我待遇的对比,怎能不让我在他的追悼会上感到深深的怀念和难以抑制的悲恸! 注解:Judd Mamor (1910 –2003) 南加大精神医学教授,在1974年第七次局部改动的美国精神病学会制定的第II版精神病诊断手册中,根据Mamor 氏多年的观察和研究,说服美国精神病学会把同性恋从精神病的诊断中革除,不再视同性恋为病态。马氏因此留名青史。
