Ministry of Culture: UC SAN DIEGO JOINS THE SPOTLIGHT TAIWAN INITIATIVE 臺灣文化光點活動

Following the Los Angeles and Berkeley branches of the University of California, UC San Diego has become the third Californian state university to formally join the Ministry of Culture’s “Spotlight Taiwan” global initiative.
In an MOU signed on July 22, the school agreed to hold a “Taiwan Film, Music, and Culture” series that will span for two years and six months. UC San Diego also lauded Taiwan for its open and diverse cultural environment, and plans to invite Taiwanese artists to serve their residencies on campus.
With the aims of “communicating with the world through culture,” the Spotlight Taiwan project was established by the Ministry of Culture with funds generously provided by Taiwanese entrepreneur Samuel Yin. Participating institutes can receive up to US$1 million to hold lectures, forums, workshops, exhibitions, and festivals on areas including Taiwanese art, literature, history, popular culture, and film.
Among the participating institutions are universities in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands, Japan, and Singapore, and the Centre for Chinese Contemporary Art in Manchester, and the Yomiuri NTV Culture Center in Japan.
