Dear fellow Directors:
As a founding director of the Hong Kong Schools Alumni Federation Scholarship Foundation 16 years ago, we have been working on the ultimate goal of endowing one full scholarship including room and board for an outstanding and financially challenged student from Hong Kong to attend the top American universities every year. After sponsoring 34 HKSAF scholars with various level of support at renowned institutions like Harvard, Stanford, Yale and MIT of the world, we finally realize our dream. I am very proud to present to you our new scholar Florence Yip to attend my alma mater University of Rochester on full merit scholarship to pursue the education of a lifetime. She agreed to stop by LA to meet with our major donors on 8/22/2013, accompanied by the Secretary of Finance the Hon. John Tsang of HKSAR (Hong Kong). I shall join Florence to the Freshman Orientation at UR afterwards.

Initiated by Academician Lih J. Chen (陳力俊,) President of National Tsing Hua University (國立清華大學,) NTHU is launching an unprecedented effort: to recruit students from United States to come to NTHU as undergraduates. We in NTHU have arrived at the conclusion that the time has indeed come for outstanding universities to “reverse” recruit students from United States. Asian universities are surging quality-wise and are now dotting on the global higher education radar screen. NTHU, an intellectually strong and open minded university in Asia Pacific, is undoubtedly among the best. Being a student armed with an NTHU education, with a profound understanding of Asian ways and means will give rise to a new paradigm in life. Indeed, we made this decision because we saw the enormous rise of Asian opportunities, especially in the 21st century. Many things seem unimaginable in the 20th century, is now imaginable in the 21st century. For students in North America who have heard or saw the rise of Asia, this is indeed a good time to seize this moment in Asia.
