Chinese 220A/B: Theoretical Approaches to Chinese and Sinophone Cultures (Fall 2010/Winter 2011)
Fall 2010:
Screenings: Mondays, 7:00 – 9:50 pm, Royce 152 (five times during Fall 2010; no screening September 27)
Discussions: Tuesdays, 2:00 – 4:50 pm, Royce 152 (every week)

Course description:
Introduction to history, theory, and methodology in the study of modern Chinese and Sinophone cultures, with emphasis on literature and cinema. Weekly units organized around periods, places, and themes such as the modern girl, high socialism, postsocialism, colonialism, and nationalism.
Grading:
Chinese 220A has In Progress grading only; students are expected to take Chinese 220B in Winter 2011 as well. A research paper (about 20 double-spaced pages or 6,000 words, in English) will be due at the end of 220B. Upon completion of 220B, letter grade and course credit will be issued for both 220A and 220B.

洛杉磯郵政總局採用中美集郵中心設計,值此祝賀《西安大明宮國家遺址公園》盛大開園,刻製了一款的特別紀念郵戳圖案, 以慶賀銘記。充分顯示美國郵政對大明宮國家遺址公園的支持, 也表達了對中國人民的友好感情, 以及對中華民族傳統文化的尊重,向美國社會各階層展示“大明宫遗址區”保護改造的特色, 為傳承歷史，延續文明的一項文化復興工程和提升城市整體實力, 對於國內外的大遺址保護工作都具有積極的借鑒意義. “讓世界了解中國文化，讓中國文化影響世界”. 這是目前在中國境外及全美國境內唯一以“大明宫家遗址公園”為LOGO圖記的特別紀念郵戳,這組意義非同尋常的紀念郵戳，將載入美國郵政史和美國郵政博物館。
