印裔在美國驚人發展: 我印裔在國際巨型企業領導層的進軍程度比起學術界確定是「有過之而無不及」!在CNN的money以「印度生的企業總裁以狂風掃落葉的方式進軍美國」的網頁內,(http://money.cnn.com/2015/08/17/investing/india-ceos-google-pichai/) 例出美國跨國巨型企業如「谷歌」,「微軟」,「百事可樂」、「萬事達卡」、「Adobe」等公司的現任總裁都是印度成長的印裔。這真是驚人呀! 華裔在美國學術領導階層有差距。毫無疑問,在美國企業領導階層,這非僅是有「差距」,用「天淵之別」之別來形容也不過份!一般來說,成功的華裔企業者在美國巨型跨國企業領導階層幾乎是不存在的。從美國社會整體來說,前者與後者的影響完全是「小巫見大巫」!從另外一個角度來觀察,更值得我們深思的是印裔能夠如此深深的溶入美國社會的織物結構(fabric structure)會能夠對他們的母國印度有什麼影響。 要在美國學術界或是企業界成為領導,在某種程度上,個人必須要「過五關斬六將」。在這個過程中,成功的印裔不只是要對美國多元文化有內涵的認識,同時也要令不同族群對他/她有安全感。最後他/她也必須對美國「社會組織」有很全面的認識!説穿了,以一個印裔要打入美國學術或企業領導層,他/她除了對自己文化有內涵信心,他/她也必須比「美國人更了解美國」正如華裔在美國成功後都很自然的與母國有深入交流,這批印裔在美國的學術與企業領導也會同樣的對母國交流。不過他們所能「轉移」到母國的經驗是遠超過他們個人的成功。他們能「轉移」美國社會在各行各業成功的祕訣! 因為華裔在美國學術及企業領導階層這方面甚缺乏,要能夠超出個人成功的經驗,甚至是巨大的,會有一定的侷限!我絕對不是說美國一切都是優秀。但是我也相信在今天美國學術與企業在全球內有目共賭的成功是必定有它內涵原因。學他人之長是應該的。這批印裔在美國學術及企業領導階層的人士必須對這優秀原因有非常深而非皮毛的了解。我在台灣時,觀察到的一些「學術領導」,我常感到假如他們在國外也有很深的行政經驗,很多不必要的犯錯是可以避開的!近年來,因為從內地到在美國的華裔學人與企業家的數目急遽增加,在他們生涯發展的過程中,我希望他們能夠改變華裔給美國社會的一般的了解。我們拭目以待吧! |
