INTEL Announces New Shenzhen Tech Center With $100M Fund
 

Intel has further deepened its 29 year relationship with China by announcing the establishment of a Shenzhen-based development center for smart devices along with a $100 million fund to promote and support development of Intel-based technology in China, the Register reported.

The proposed Intel Smart Device Innovation Center will provide local original equipment manufacturers, original design manufacturers and software developers with access to Intel technology platforms and help support local tech firms in bringing products from conception to commercial actualization.

Qianhai Targets Hong Kong Firms in Land Auctions 

Qianhai is planning to auction up to 15 parcels of land this year totalling 2.6 million square metres, a third of which will be sold only to Hong Kong companies as a way of attracting more investment from the city.

The new economic zone in Shenzhen also plans to build 4,717 flats and rent them at below-market prices to Hong Kong firms and professionals who relocate there, said Zhang Bei, the official in charge of developing Qianhai.

Huawei Launches APAC's First Ever OpenDaylight Lab

Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology（ICT）solutions provider, today announced the opening of its OpenDaylight（ODL）Lab in Shenzhen, China. OpenDaylight is an open and collaborative network programmability platform for software defined networking（SDN）. It also creates a solid foundation for network virtualization function（NFV）for networks of any size or scale. The Huawei run ODL Lab will become the first of its kind in Asia Pacific, and second in the world to be hosted by a third-party as part of the approved OpenDaylight Community Labs list. The Lab encourages open innovation and transparency for SDN and will enable developers and users in the region to test and experience ODL projects.

Shenzhen launches 1st community foundations

The city of Shenzhen in Guangdong province plans to develop 50 to 100 community foundations in three years to promote a mutual-aid society.

The threshold for starting such a community foundation has been reduced by half to just 1 million yuan（$161,000）.

The foundations are expected to help the needy, better serve local society, improve public facilities, and finance community social organizations and volunteer services, according to the city's civil bureau.
