I hope the new year finds you well.
I’m attaching a youtube link to my daughter Sydney’s composition Moonlit
River 《月光河》(rivière au clair de lune). The piece won national first prize in
the 2015 Golden Key Piano Composition Competition; as a result she is invited to
perform in the World Young Composers' Recital in Ehrbar Hall, Vienna, in
July.
For those of you in China who cannot access youtube, here’s the link in
《土豆网》
She composed this music as an exercise in using chords based primarily on
pentatonic scales, chords favored by impressionistic composers such as Debussy
and Ravel(hence the French title as a tribute to them)who drew inspirations
from oriental music. You can probably recognize the Chinese and Japanese
character in the music.
I hope you like it!
Best wishes to you in 2015.
