CALL FOR PARTICIPATION
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WORK GROUP
Purpose
To begin the work of Professional Development for the State’s Common Assessment Initiative(CAI), the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office invites you to participate in Professional Development Work Group meetings for 2015. The purpose of this work group is to create a professional development program that will launch and support the implementation of the Common Assessment Initiative. We seek participation from matriculation staff, counselors/advisors, researchers, IT personnel and discipline faculty in Math, English and ESL, and IT staff. Stipends for faculty, to be determined by the Academic Senate, will be provided; travel and necessary lodging will be reimbursed for any off-site meetings.
Background:The Common Assessment Initiative
The Common Assessment Initiative contract was awarded by the Chancellor’s Office in November 2013 to a broad partnership of members to address needs, test creation, test delivery, test administration, professional development, and the creation of a data warehouse with course placement information and tools based on using multiple measures. In short, the CAI will culminate in a single, diagnostic, common assessment that may be used by all 112 of the state’s community colleges, beginning with a group of pilot colleges in fall, 2015. The coalition partners include Butte-Glen Community College District, the primary contract recipient, Cal-PASS Plus, Saddleback College, and the Academic Senate of California Community Colleges.
