New Year, Old Questions by Guibao Yang
Happy New Rabbit Year to you and your family!
2011 is already here and the Chinese New Year is approaching（Feb. 3）. It is time to celebrate!
I have made my personal 2011 New Year resolutions and I would like to share some of my thoughts with you.
First, let me ask you a few of questions：How much do you really know about the current status of your personal health? Have you thoroughly checked up on your body last year? Do you have a chance to be saved if you are having a heart attack in a workplace or home? How much do you and your family members know about CPR and AED and how to deal with emergencies?
The reason I am asking you these questions is because I have a 50 years old friend who died from a heart attack last year after he played in a tennis match. In Atlanta, we had a 42 years old female Chinese School teacher suddenly die from a heart attack two weeks ago. In both cases, the victims thought they were generally healthy. While the victims were having the heart attack, the people around them did not know what to do and thus reduced the victims’ chances of survival.
So this year, one of my resolutions is to have full checkups on my heart condition and keep it healthy. Heart disease is still the leading cause of death in the USA and the world. Most people overlook this fact and don’t pay much attention to heart disease. Do you know that each year about 1.5 million people suffer from heart attacks in the U.S and nearly about 500,000 of these people die? Indeed, if you live in the developed world, the odds are very good that you will have a heart attack at some point in your life. So be prepared and learn how to survive against a heart attack. When that time comes, it's essential to act quickly to maximize your chances of survival.
So my dear friends, my Chinese New Year’s wishes for you are：Have a Happy New Year and Have a good healthy heart！
