Re：Stop provocation of Huangyan Island impasse

It is well-known that Huangyan Island has been China's indisputable territory since ancient time, and the waters around the island have been Chinese fishermen's traditional fishing ground.

Manila's decision to stir up nationalist feelings within the country is to seek greater support from voters at the cost of China-Philippine bilateral relations. The Philippine government is trying to play up the island dispute to shift the focus of its public from the domestic economic downturn and other instabilities.

Manila should not further harm bilateral relations. Any upcoming anti-China demonstrations, encouraged by the Philippines, will increase tension and hostility between peoples of both countries, and even among the ethnic groups in the United States.  Enterprises and tourists will be put on safety alert for any further provocations from Philippines.

It is essential that Philippines should stop repeated provocation, which will worsen the month-long Huangyan Island impasse. We have a thousand reasons to ensure and develop the bilateral traditional friendship. Any further escalation will trigger strong response from Chinese people, both domestic and overseas.
