Presentation Skills Workshop
Does speaking in front of a group of people or pitching an idea to your boss make you nervous? Conquer that fear and strengthen your professional communication style by attending the OCA-OC+APEX Presentation Skills workshop.
During this interactive, engaging one-day course, participants will receive specific tools and techniques, including learning the 3 V's of effective presentations, to express ideas clearly, demonstrate credibility, and connect with their audiences.
Your instructor will be Mike Cannon, communications consultant, UCI professor, and owner of Mainpoint Communication. Mr. Cannon is an experienced TV reporter, writer/director of TV & radio commercials, Congressional Press Secretary and advisor, and consultant for Franklin Covey.
Lunch will be served.
This training is valued at $300 per person and is generously sponsored by Southern California Edison.

Seats are non-transferable. Cancellations will result in the seats going back into their respective lotteries and offered to the next person in line.
Registrants will be asked to present picture identification at check-in on the day of the class.

Kollaboration Los Angeles
Kollaboration Los Angeles is coming to the Ford Amphitheatre on July 13, 2012. In a little more than a decade, Kollaboration has grown tremendously as an organization, with shows in 15 cities across the United States and Canada, and yet, its mission still remains the same. By providing a creative platform through our talent shows, Kollaboration seeks to empower and encourage Asian Pacific Islander American & Canadian artists to pursue their passions in mainstream media and inspire future generations to do the same. The winner of this competition will represent LA and be placed in a poll alongside winners of each Kollaboration 2012 event across the nation where the top 7 will be flown into LA for the finale show in November.

6th Annual Little Tokyo Sake & Tofu Tasting Event
Little Tokyo Sake & Tofu Tasting will be a unique evening featuring an assortment of sake from around the world and hors d'oeuvres from Los Angeles' top restaurants. Guests will enjoy an evening of strolling down the "old and new streets of Japan" and experience the tastes and smells of the traditional summer outdoor festivals. For those of you familiar with the 12-year run of LTSC's Tofu Festival, you will relive this iconic feature in some of the dishes, as we are reviving the tofu theme for this year's event! Sake experts will provide education on sake and food pairings. The event will be held at the beautiful Vibiana LA and benefits the programs of Little Tokyo Service Center. AMP Workshop #2:Why Personal Branding is Important to Career Advancement
The APEX Mentoring Program's(AMP) second workshop took place on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at the Children's Bureau. Workshop attendees welcomed Mina Watkins, Orange County Life Coach, who engaged an audience of over 50 AMP participants and APEX board members, in a presentation about personal branding. Mina led participants though worksheets on creating your own mission statement and thinking about "My Future Vision." Premium Members Bowling Event
APEX hosted a Premium Members-only event at 300 Pasadena on Thursday, June 14. It was a fun-filled night of food, drinks and bowling in a relaxed setting to network and get to know other premium members. Bruce Provisor was the highest scoring bowler(beating APEX's President, Ricky Choi). Prizes were given out to all bowlers who beat Ricky's score.

OC API Joint Mixer
Summer got off to a great start in Orange County as six local Asian/Pacific Islander American(APIA)organizations came together to co-host a networking mixer at Kimera Restaurant in Irvine on June 21, 2012. Over 150 people came and took advantage of the opportunity to make new connections and renew old ones. It was a great opportunity for APIA professionals of diverse backgrounds to meet people in other professions and get to know the hosting organizations.
The hosting organizations were Asian Business Association Orange County(ABAOC), Asian Professional Exchange(APEX), Filipino American Chamber of Commerce of Orange County(FACCOC),National Association of Asian American Professionals(NAAAP-SoCal), Organization of Chinese Americans-Orange County(OCA-OC), and Vietnamese American Chamber of Commerce of Orange County(VACOC). |

Footprints to Success - Owning Your Own Business Through Franchising
APEX held another installment of its Footprints to Success seminar program at the Cerritos Library on June 28, 2012. This latest installment focused on franchising and similar entrepreneurial ventures. Over 50 people attended the panel format discussion and gained insight into the convenience store, financial planning, and quick service restaurant industries from panelists representing 7-11, Prudential, and Chick-Fil-A. They also learned that there are over 120 types of businesses with franchising opportunities.
The panelists were Joel Sigmon, Franchisee Sourcing(Chick-Fil-A); Bob Sun, Owner(Walnut, CA Chick-Fil-A); Cliff Kim, Managing Director(Prudential Financial); and Bill Halverson, Franchise Sales Manager(7-Eleven).
The panel discussion was followed by a networking reception that afforded attendees the opportunity to meet with the panelists as well as other representatives of the above companies.
All three companies generously sponsored the event.

Professional Tip of the Month:Find a sponsor to help you move up in business
Mentors are an important part of growing and learning. They play a "coach" role in your career. Sponsors, while they are mentors, will talk about you and take the extra step to help you through your career. They put their own reputation on the line to pull you through the ranks. There is an increasing trend in supporting sponsorship programs through some of the largest companies. Just remember that these relationships cannot be forced. Continue great performance at work and take the extra step to get noticed and start to build loyal relationships that may evolve into finding a sponsor through your organization or industry.
