Renwen Lecture：Chinese Culture as Shaped by the Chinese Language ~ November 11, 2012
The Renwen Society at China Institute presents a lecture by Professor Pan Wenguo of East China Normal University in Shanghai on Chinese Culture and the Chinese Language. Professor Pan’s central theme is that many aspects of Chinese culture are in fact shaped by the Chinese language and its script, without which, the Chinese culture may have very well been a different one. Professor Pan will specifically discuss 5 aspects of the Chinese culture from a linguistic perspective：1）polysemy in the academic culture; 2）brevity in political culture; 3）rhyming in the pedagogical culture; 4）homonym in folklore; and 5）fun in language games.
