On behalf of the Chinese-American Engineers and Scientists Association of Southern California(CESASC), we would like to extend you a warm invitation to attend the CESASC 51st Annual Convention & Scholarship/Award Ceremony, to be held on Saturday, March 30, 2013 in the San Gabriel Hilton Hotel, San Gabriel, California.
As the most important CESASC event throughout one year, the Convention will provide CESASC members and friends with the ideal forum and great opportunity to reflect what has been done in the past year, to witness installation of the new Board of Directors, to recognize achievements of Chinese Americans in various CESASC award categories, to engage in open technical information exchange, and to facilitate professional networking and socializing among fellow members.
This year’s theme is Human, Environment, and Natural Resources. The full-day event includes a daytime technical symposium from 11:00 AM to 5 PM and an evening banquetfrom 6 PM to 9:30 PM.
The technical symposium features(1)a luncheon Keynote speech by Dr. Fuk Li, Director of Mars Exploration Directorate at NASA/JPL,(2)a series of technical sessions led by experts in variety of fields including aerospace exploration, information technology, biosciences and medical technology, environmental/transportation/geotechnical, energy and alternative energy, and humanity and social sciences, and(3)two poster sessions presented by CESASC scholarship recipients(college students)and inaugural CESASC STEM Essay Contest winners(middle/high school students). A Mingling with Scientists/Engineers networking session will be held from 4 PM to 5 PM.
The evening banquet features award ceremony, keynote speeches, new board installation, and performance. Three prominent Chinese Americans will be recognized this year:(1)the winner of inaugural Trailblazer Award, Dr. Judy Chu, the first Chinese American Congresswoman;(2)the winner of Lifetime Achievement Award, Dr. Alice Huang, Senior Faculty Associate of Caltech, Former President of American Association for the Advancement of Science(AAAS), member of Committee of 100, and Board Member of 80-20 NAAPAC;(3)the winner of Achievement Award, Dr. Andrew Lo, Professor of MIT Sloan School of Management and 2012 Time Magazine's The World's 100 Most Influential People. Both Dr. Huang and Prof. Lo will deliver keynote speeches.
