南加大(USC)秋季下半学期系列活动

Dear Trojan Parents and Family Members,

The 2013 school year is in full swing! Students are writing papers, studying for exams and preparing presentations. There are many activities your student can enjoy as a break from their studies including film screenings and lectures, musical performances and sporting events. If you are on campus, feel free to stop by our office in Student Union Suite #200 to say “hello” or ask questions.

Here are some resources and events to enrich your student’s experience:

Mark Your Calendar for Trojan Family Weekend -- Thursday, October 24, 2013 - Sunday, October 27, 2013
Registration is open for Trojan Family Weekend 2013! To register, visit http://sait.usc.edu/parent/tfw/. If you have questions or need further information, please call 213.740.6775 or email scparent@usc.edu.

Registration fees(prior to October 7):Adult $75, Grandparent $50 and Child(10-17)$45; registration fees(October 7- 22): Adult $90, Grandparent $65 and Child(10-17)$60; and on-site registration fees(if available):Adults $110, Grandparent $80 and Child(10-17)$75.

Registration packets will be available for pick-up at the Trojan Family Weekend tent(located in Herklotz Plaza)Noon - 4pm on Thursday, October 24 and 7:30am - 4pm on Friday, October 25.

The new Trojan Family Weekend app is available for download at iTunes and Google Play. This free custom event app is a useful tool that will enhance the experience throughout Trojan Family Weekend. This app makes event navigation quick and easy, and will provide real-time event updates, news highlights and customizable schedules. The Trojan Family Weekend app was developed and sponsored by Creative Productions. Download the app from the following:

Hotels are filling up. Here’s a list of Los Angeles hotels(several offer USC rates)to help plan your trip:http://www.usc.edu/student-affairs/parents/images/PlacestoStayinLA.pdf.

While you are in town for Trojan Family Weekend, also consider:

  • Free public tours of the historic Los Angeles Times newspaper building and printing facilities. Reservations are required and participants must be at least 14 years of age. RSVP before Friday, October 11 for Trojan Family Weekend by calling 213.237.5757. The Los Angeles Times building is at 202 West First Street in downtown Los Angeles.
  • Free tours of the Los Angeles City Hall are available Monday-Friday mornings. RSVP before Friday, October 11 for Trojan Family Weekend, by calling213.978.1995. The Observation deck(on the 27th floor)also is open to the public from 9am – 5pm Monday-Friday and offers a 360 degree view of downtown attractions and skyline. The public entrance to City Hall is at 201 Main Street in Los Angeles.

Viterbi Professor to Discuss Research at Parent Speaker Series on November 19
Registration will open soon for the Office for Parent Programs Speakers Series program on Tuesday, November 19 in The Forum(Room 450)at the Tutor Campus Center. Dr. Najmedin Meshkati of the USC Viterbi School of Engineering will discuss his research in the fields of safety and risk reduction in nuclear power, aviation, petrochemical and transportation industries, among other topics, including research done with USC students. Parents also will receive university updates and have a chance to network with other parents. Visit www.usc.edu/parent for more information.

LGBT Pride Parent Circle Provides Support for Parents
The LGBT Resource Center and Office for Parent Programs announce the LGBT Pride Parent Circle, its newest parent circle, to provide a support network for LGBT students’ families and LGBT identified parents. There are many ways for parents to become involved in the USC community. Opportunities to volunteer on campus include Trojan Family Weekend, the Speaker Series, Homecoming and other events throughout the year. Volunteers are always needed and appreciated. On-Campus Recruiting Information Available at the Career Center
The Career Center is a place for your student to visit from day one as a Trojan. Spring 2014 on-campus recruiting will run January 15 – April, 18, 2014.

Center for Women and Men Observes Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October
The USC Center for Women and Men(CWM)will observe Domestic Violence Awareness Month with a series of events October 14-18, 2013 including outreach and education programs, a film screening and panel discussion in conjunction with the Asian Pacific American Student Services(APASS), a “Hands Are Not for Hurting” ally event and programs with other campus-based cultural centers. In addition, the Men CARE program is currently recruiting new members and the CWM is launching a new leadership program aimed at preventing gender-based harm. Registration Open for USC Volunteer Center 2013-14 Alternative Breaks
The USC Volunteer Center offers students alternative break trips to various international and domestic locations. These trips create a unique learning environment by taking USC students, staff and faculty and immersing them in a culture or community. Students are required to attend all pre-trip orientation meetings, fundraising and meet other requirements. Visit
