(English summary:Mr. Hing Wan Cheng, an art collector and connoisseur, will examine the controversies surrounding the authentication of three famous classic Chinese paintings and calligraphy works, and present his approach to meeting the challenges of appraising such priceless art items.)

 

講演人鄭慶雲先生是「美國亞洲(鄭氏)文化基金會」的創始人。他在收藏基礎上,深入研究中國古代文字演變史及古代書畫鋻定的疑難雜症,對先秦文字至甲骨文以前文字有獨到的發現。他提出以帝皇文化為眿絡追蹤5000年中華文明史並以立體對比法解決田野考古學以外歷史遺留器物的斷代鐅定。

 

本次演講主題對古代書畫鍳定的疑難雜雜症。以歷史上三𠆤案例為題:1,台北故宮藏品「懷素自叙帖」70年的爭論真相,及兼評傅申、徐邦達對台北故宮本不是懷素真跡的錯誤覌點。2,上海博物館藏品五代徐熙「雪竹圖」,徐邦達與謝稚柳的爭論真相,及鄭氏對此圖鑒定結論。3,上海劉益謙龍博物館藏品「宋徽宗寫生珍禽圖」是否是宋徽宗真跡。通過對上述三𠆤案例分折,明確指出以學術派、技術派、藝術派的鑒定法各有缺點,並提出以立體對比法的科學方法,解決歷史器物鍳定的疑難雜症。

 

演講過程中,鄭先生將公布大量苐一手資料及許多公、私機構末曾公佈的資料,內容豐富多彩,對書畫收藏界是一個機會難得的交流機會。

         Inspired by Dunhuang:Re-creation in Contemporary Chinese Art ~ December 14, 2013 – June 8, 2014
         Like the old masters before them, modern and contemporary luminaries, such as Zhang Daqian, Zhang Hongtu, Liu Jude, Liu Dan, and Yu Hong, have sought inspiration from Dunhuang's ancient sculptures and murals. Inspired by Dunhuang presents the breathtaking results of their painstaking and creative efforts, which capture the experience of Dunhuang in ways that are powerfully transformative. With its carefully curated group of paintings, calligraphy, sculptures, photographs, and mixed media installations that encompass a variety of themes and forms, this exhibition is a pioneering exploration of the historical, literary, artistic, and conceptual nature of the inspiration and influence exerted by Dunhuang's thousand-year-old tradition on contemporary artistic creation. Organized by China Institute Gallery, this exhibition is curated by Willow Weilan Hai, Director of China Institute Gallery, and Jerome Silbergeld, the P.Y. and Kinmay W. Tang Professor of Chinese Art History, Chair of the Department of Art & Archaeology at Princeton University, and Director of Princeton's Tang Center for East Asian Art. More...

                  Adult Language & Studio Classes ~ Winter 2014 Starts in 1 Week!
         Classes begin the week of January 13, 2014 with NEW classes in the morning and during lunch hours. China Institute offers a wide range of language Group Classes for students at every proficiency level. Taught by native speakers with advanced training, students learn to speak, read, and write while gaining an appreciation for Chinese culture. Courses are designed using an interactive approach to fully engage learners in language development. In addition, FREE one-on-one tutoring sessions are offered to registered students while group classes are in session. Legends of China ~ Outreach Workshops
         China Institute is offering a brand new outreach program for elementary school students that we can bring to your school or institution. Our Spring 2014 program, Legends of China, is a series of interactive workshops that has been designed to vibrantly retell five famous Chinese stories through an array of amusing exercises. Taught by our experienced teaching artists, these workshops aim to enrich and deepen students' understanding of Chinese culture by approaching each story through a different lens of Chinese culture, such as art, music, dance and other movement-based arts.                   Chinese New Year Party - "Year of the Horse" ~ February 7, 2014
         Join us for our festive annual New Year’s party on Friday, February 7, 2014 at Cipriani 42nd Street to celebrate the “Year of the Horse” honoring Ming Cho Lee, recipient of the 2013 Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement and China Institute’s first Blue Cloud Award recipient.  The celebration includes a reception and family style dinner, traditional lion dance, Shaolin Monk performance, silent auction and dancing. 2014 China Institute Gala ~ Update!
         China Institute is pleased to announce that I. M. Pei, Founder of I. M. Pei & Associates, and Chien Chung Pei, Chairman of China Institute and Co-Founder of Pei Partnership Architects, have been chosen as Blue Cloud Award recipients for the 2014 China Institute Gala. Father and son have both received numerous awards and accolades over the years for their distinguished careers as architects. We look forward to an especially festive evening celebrating these two outstanding individuals, as well as the 88th Anniversary of the founding of China Institute.
