In 2014, our audience can expect another wonderful showcase of eastern performing arts at the Xilin Lantern Festival! In partnership with the Modern and Classical Languages Department of North Central College, the event will be held on Sunday April 13 at 6:30 pm at Pfeiffer Hall. Students from North Central College will continue their humorous style to MC for the event. They will surely bring us more laughter this year than the last!
For this festival, the
Xilin Art Academy will present beautiful ethnic dance choreography and will ring in the Year of the Horse. Our special guests this year will include the Song and Dance Company of Jilin Province, China. Their presentation will give you a glimpse of the life of Korean, Man, and Han people who live in the Northeast region of China.
If you like music, you will surely enjoy a series of Chinese songs played by the Chicago Sinfonietta quartet, as well as the "Crazy Violin" Mr. Shaobo Zhang. He has earned this unique moniker through the avant-garde shape of the violin he uses, matched with a playing style which is truly "crazy"!
The 2014 Lantern Festival will also feature martial arts, which will surely dazzle you with their acrobatic displays and feats of strength!
