Shu Ting, considered one of the most important modern poets in China, will speak at Cal Poly Pomona.
The University Library and the College of the Extended University will co-host the event, which is set for Sunday, May 17, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the University Library’s fourth floor Special Events Room.
Shu Ting led the Misty Poets, an underground literary group that challenged restrictions on art during China’s Cultural Revolution.
She began writing poetry in 1969, and her work has been published in several literary magazines, including the noted underground journal Jīntiān(Today). She released her first collection of poetry in 1982 titled “Shuangwei Chuan”(“The Boat with Double Sails”), and composed a joint collection with the late poet Gu Cheng, another literary giant of the time.
Shu Ting, who serves as president of the literary association of Fujian Province, was the most quoted poet on university campuses in China for decades.
