“The pitfalls of new business launches, including both the selection of partners and dealing with financing”

There is a difference between an idea for a new product/service and a real business opportunity. This is true whether or not your idea involves the use of new technology. In this class, I will use the Whatsapp case to illustrate the principles of the customer development methodology in entrepreneurship(also known as the Lean Startup). We'll talk about pivoting, the difference between a business model and an idea and how to get started with the earliest stages of entrepreneurship.
Chuck is a professor in Stanford University's Management Science & Engineering group, teaching and doing research on technology entrepreneurship so that the next generation of entrepreneurs can have the greatest chances of success possible.
Before Stanford, he earned his Ph.D. at the MIT Sloan School of Management and a B.S. in Biological Basis of Behavior at Duke University.
He has spent the past 10 years in and around startups, founding 3 of his own, worked in a Duke neuroscience lab, started a biotech consulting firm, worked with two venture capital firms(Flagship Ventures and Lux Capital)and mentored startups in the MIT 100K and Clean Energy competitions.
