Taking a Stand:Sedentary Behavior & Health Conference(10/15)

October 15 – 17, 2015

www.sedentaryconference.com

Sedentary behavior creates a major risk for many chronic diseases. This is a worldwide problem as many people must sit for 7 or more hours a day! This “mandatory” sitting makes concerns regarding sedentary behavior and health urgently in need of being addressed. With the health mantra of “sitting is the new smoking in the 21st century,” it is clear that we sit too much. It is time to stand up to sedentary behavior.

The conference has seven specific aims:

* To understand how sedentary behavior(typically too much sitting)may be defined as a

behavioral attribute that is distinct from physical inactivity(or too little physical

activity).

* To provide evolutionary and historical perspectives and concepts on sedentary behavior

and its relationship with health and chronic diseases.

* To describe some key characteristics of the rapidly evolving body of research evidence

on sedentary behavior, health, and chronic diseases.

* To address critical measurement and research challenges in sedentary behavior and health research, and explore the research potential of the latest technology.

* To describe the characteristics of sedentary behavior by subpopulations, e.g., children, older adults, minorities, cancer survivors, and people with disabilities.

* To provide a review and update on a variety of intervention theories, strategies, and programs.

* To outline priorities for future sedentary behavior and health research.

This conference highlights the importance of reducing sitting and/or sedentary time, as countering sedentary behavior is an emerging public health strategy.

This event is intended for health and wellness researchers and educators, as well as human resources and personnel managers, and everyone interested in better health behavior. It is accessible online through a live streaming broadcast. Access tickets to the entire three-day conference are available for $50 for those interested in the conference but unable to attend in person.

Continuing education credits are available for those who attend, both in person and online. Custom streaming solutions are available for organizations and institutions interested in providing conference access to a group.
