The Orchid Pavilion Gathering has been considered the epitome of a cultured and elegant life since 353 CE, please join us for an inspiring afternoon and let our exhibition Art in a Time of Chaos take you back to the time of Wang Xizhi and his literati friends.

The Seven Sages have been a recurring theme in Chinese art since the Six Dynasties period and have continued to inspire artists for generations. In this lecture, Willow Weilan Hai, Director of China Institute Gallery, and Chief Curator of Art in a Time of Chaos:Masterworks from Six Dynasties China, 3rd-6th Centuries will explore archaeological findings in artwork throughout history and decipher the significance of the Seven Sages as cultural symbols in Chinese art.

Come see Once Upon a Time in China(1991), directed by Tsui Hark, and introduced by Raymond Tsang, Doctoral Candidate in Cinema Studies at NYU and specialist in martial arts studies.
The final installment in our Film Art Set in Times of Chaos series, Once Upon a Time in China is a distinctive update of a renowned tale:the life of the great physician and martial artist Wong Fei Hung(1847-1924). Set in the latter years of Qing Dynasty(1644 to 1912), the film depicts the crime-ridden and semi-colonialized city of Guangdong.
