As the COVID-19 pandemic is hitting human beings hard across the globe, data science has emerged to be a viable and powerful fighting weapon as epitomized by the popular real-time pandemic tracker dashboard at Johns Hopkins University. On a larger scale, data science remains to be the "sexiest job of the 21st century" and commands abundant career opportunities in all walks of life.
To help you kickstart an attempt into this unique career pathway and navigate a successful professional journey in data science, LEAP will organize an eSalon, LEAP Forward With Data Science, on Saturday July 25 2020 on Zoom. This event features two TED talks by data science professionals from Netflix and Pandora Music, one fireside chat on careers in data science, and membership drive to the LEAP SIG-DS（Special Interest Group in Data Science）program.

What Is LEAP SIG?
The LEAP Special Interest Group（SIG） program is intended to address increasing interests of LEAP members in specific fast-growing technical disciplines. It aims to offer a great opportunity for growth and networking in a supportive, collaborative, and self-organized environment. It will enable participating members to explore common curiosities, brainstorm innovative ideas, share unique expertise, advanced hands-on technical know-hows, keep abreast of emerging brands, and develop problem-solving readiness critical to the professional success in the real world full of dynamic challenges.
Special Interest Group in Data Science（SIG-DS）is the first LEAP SIG installation with a focus on data science, artificial intelligence, and its applications and was launched in 2017.
