China Cal Restarts Village Doctor Training Program.
This October, China Cal volunteer and nurse practitioner, Joy Beckmann RN, will be running hypertension training sessions for village doctors in Puer prefecture, Yunnan Province. Faculty from Kunming Medical College and the Bless China International NGO will participate in training over one hundred village doctors next month. With the recent approval from the Yunnan Ministries of Health and Public Affairs, China Cal is able to restart these activities. Teaching village doctors is an important part of China Cal’s general plan for the next fiveyears. China Cal thanks Joy and the faculty for their assistance in training village doctors!
Children that need your help. Thisyear, China Cal has already saved the lives of 17 children with heart defects by providing diagnostic and financial support. Little Ai was one of these fortunate children who underwent surgery at Cheng Du Military Hospital this summer. Prior to the surgery, the blockage in his heart was making him feel tired and out of breath. Thanks to the generosity of China Cal donors, he feels much better and is looking forward to playing with his friends in Bulang Shan town.
We need your donations to save more lives. Li Ying Fu has a defective mitral valve that needs to be fixed. His valve is so tightly blocked that he has trouble breathing even when he rests. Just $2000 is enough to pay for his surgery. Please donate now at www.chinacal.org.
University of Kansas Donates Ultrasound Machine. Professors Sue Pingleton and Kevin Mulhern of the University of Kansas have donated a Cypress ultrasound recording instrument from their university. This instrument will greatly assist us in diagnosing congenital heart disease in children. Thank you, Professors Pingleton and Mulhern, for helping the poor rural children of Yunnan province.
China Cal Students and Doctors Report Research Findings. China Cal research fellows(Jie Huang MD, Ying Wang MD, and Hao Wan MD)and China Cal Medical Students(Steven Yang and Sandy Liu)are writing reports for submission to the international medical literature regarding hypertension in rural Yunnan. They have found large differences in the prevalence of hypertension between minority groups in Yunnan and in the prevalence of hypertension in villages near and far from population centers. So far, China Cal has one peer reviewed publication in the international literature. Good luck to Drs. Huang, Wang and Wan and Mr. Yang and Ms. Liu in their efforts!
Please Donate Now China Cal operates solely through the generosity and vision of donors, participants and YOU. Every donation helps tremendously and allows us to continue our efforts in saving lives, raising awareness about heart disease, and improving quality of life through our medical, research and education programs. In order to continue and improve our work, we must soon hire an expert pediatric cardiologist to help us with diagnostic assessments. With your help, we can purchase better equipment and hire the staff we need. Your contribution is greatly appreciated.
