Dear friends of CSUN China Institute,

Hope you all have had a smooth ending of the semester, and a fun summer to look forward to.

Awakened by the never-ending racial discrimination and violent attacks against minority groups, and shocked by the tragic death of George Floyd and numerous attacks against Asian Americans during the pandemic, China Institute and the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences have worked together with local Chinese and Black communities to promote a better understanding of Chinese（Asian）American and Black American histories and cultures. A lot of concerned people have met several times over the Zoom since last May, and this summer we’ll start with two wonderful lectures introducing the history of Black Americans and Asian Americans.

Many thanks to Dr. Hackett and Dr. Hutchinson, who are inspirational thinkers and are very kind to share their ideas with us. The month of May is the Asian American and Pacific Islanders heritage month, and as it comes to its conclusion, I like to draw your attention to some local resources for AAPI history and culture.

• The Los Angeles Public Library, in collaboration with the Huntington Library, has made a special archive to document the history of Chinatown in Los Angeles in both Chinese and English, featuring precious old pictures and engaging videos: Stories and Voices from L.A.
