Anyang Archaeology in the 21st Century

New Perspectives in the Search for the Shang Civilization

TANG JIGEN（Chinese Academy of Social Sciences）

UCLA Center for Chinese Studies - October‏ Events & Activities

Professor Tang will discuss the latest archaeological knowledge of the Shang. His focus will be on Anyang's residential layout and social organization. He will also explore the association between the loss of cultural diversity and the collapse of the Shang state.

Tang Jigen（PhD, University College London, 2004）is Professor of Archaeology in the Institute of Archaeology, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. In recent years he has directed the excavation at Yinxu in Anyang and has conducted research on the area's importance in the Bronze Age.

SIXTH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON INTERDISCIPLINARY SOCIAL SCIENCES
The University of New Orleans, USA
11-13 July 2011

This year Social Sciences Conference will take place in New Orleans, USA at the University of New Orleans. The University of New Orleans is located on Lake Ponchatrain in New Orleans, Louisiana. Site of social and environmental crises in recent years, and at the heart of the biggest urban renewal in American history, UNO and New Orleans offer the perfect backdrop to examine critical dilemmas addressed in the the Social Sciences.

The conference will address interdisciplinary practices across the social sciences, and between the social sciences and the natural sciences, applied sciences and the professions. It will work in a multidisciplinary way, across diverse fields and taking varied perspectives in order to address the fundamentals of the social sciences.

As well as impressive line-up of international plenary speakers, the conference will include numerous paper, workshop and colloquium presentations by practitioners, teachers and researchers. We would particularly like to invite you to respond to the conference call-for-papers. Presenters may choose to submit written papers for publication in the fully refereed International Journal of Interdisciplinary Social Sciences. If you are unable to attend the conference in person, virtual registrations are also available which allow you to submit a paper for refereeing and possible publication, as well as access to the Journal.

The deadline for the next round in the call for papers (a title and short abstract) is 2 December 2010. Future deadlines will be announced on the conference website after this date. Proposals are reviewed within two weeks of submission.
