CTA is seeking engaging presentations for the 2023 Special Education Conference. The conference planning committee will review all applications and select the presenters based on the following criteria:relevancy to the conference program and attendees; inclusion of hot topics outlined below:evidence of knowledge of the subject matter; and prior presentation success.
We hope you will consider submitting an application and share your knowledge and experience with our educators. Below you will find conference details, session topics and themes. The conference planning committee will review each application. CTA will compensate you for your standard travel expenses to present at the Special Education Conference.

Application Review Process
The deadline to apply is Monday, March 6, 2023. All workshop sessions will be 75 minutes. The Planning Committee is specifically looking for presentations that fit into the following topics:
1. Audience:General Education
How to recognize when a child needs a referral to Special Education
Instructional strategies for students with disabilities in the general education classroom including:
Universal Design for Learning
Accommodations vs. Modifications
How to set-up a classroom so it is inviting for ALL students
Co-teaching strategies
Strategies for English Learners who also have an IEP
Dual diagnosis:Supporting our students with IEPs in the GATE classroom
Supporting our students with IEPs in the Dual Language Immersion program
Behavioral strategies for the general ed teacher
De-escalation and preventative measures
Understanding ableism
2. Audience:Special Education
Best practices for assessment administration and data collection(audience:school psychologists, related service providers, ed specialists)
Cognitive behavioral therapy
Planning for success:Effective transition plans and meetings
Instructional Strategies for hybrid and distance learning including:
Digital tools
Moderate/severe student population
Adapting general ed curriculum
Teaching multiple grade levels of special education simultaneously
How to effectively deal with advocates and stressful IEP meetings
Holding a positive and effective IEP meeting
School psychologist, SLP, designated support personnel school nurse specific trainings

How to effectively collaborate and communicate with parents and family
Co-Teaching:What does successful co-teaching look like? What does successful collaboration between GE & Sped look like?
Trauma-Informed practices for students with disabilities
Educator Self-Care
Trainings geared towards an audience of paraprofessionals
How to effectively work with your education support professionals
Supporting our deaf and hard of hearing students
Being a TEAM- effective collaboration for general and special education staff
Supporting the mental health of students with IEPs.
Presenter Application Questions
The below questions will be required for each workshop application you submit for review. CTA recommends that you write your session details for each question in a separate document and then copy paste your responses when completing the online application.
There is a 20-minute limit per page in the online process, so typing out your responses beforehand will help avoid your application from timing out. We also recommend using any browser other than Internet Explorer.
