I want to share some exciting news with you!
I want you to know that I will be running for reelection in the newly-drawn 27th Congressional District!
This district map was approved earlier in week by the California Citizens Redistricting Commission, and it encompasses many cities in the San Gabriel Valley.
I have had the honor of serving the residents of the San Gabriel Valley, having been elected 11 times over the past 26 years, from my days on the Garvey School District Board of Education to serving as Mayor on the Monterey Park City Council, then the California State Assembly, the Board of Equalization and now in Congress.
I look forward to continuing to serve many of the same cities I represented back in the State Assembly and the Board of Equalization. I will work hard to serve the new areas in the 27th district to address their specific needs and concerns.
Since being elected to Congress, my priority has been getting Americans back to work, so I co-sponsored a bill that would extend and expand the enormously successful Jobs NOW program, which used federal stimulus funds to subsidize jobs at the local level and resulted in more than 11,000 jobs in Los Angeles County alone. In addition, I have worked to improve our nation's education system, helping pass a landmark college affordability bill to boost federal college grants and keep student loan interest rates low.
But I can't win reelection alone. I will have to run in a district that is almost 90% different from my current district, on top of running in an open primary. Having the resources to run an effective campaign will be crucial.
