July 27th - 29th, 2012(Fri-Sun)

Information about this year's conference can be found at

ABOUT YMC 2012

YMC is an annual conference for undergraduate research in mathematics to which students involved in REUs and similar programs around the country are invited with full support in order to present their research in talks and with posters and interact with peer and senior participants. Invitations to YMC are competitive due to limited space and budget.(Last year we had 157 students applying for 134 projects but could select only 70 students to present 58 projects). Partial support is also available to accompanying mentors.

APPLICATIONS

APPLICATIONS ARE NOW OPEN

In order to apply link to http://www.ymc.osu.edu/2012/apply.php and carefully follow all instructions. Applicants are also strongly recommended to read the applicant resources in order to improve their submitted abstracts.   The deadline for applications is

Wednesday June 27th 4:00pm EDT

The review of applications by a 20+ member panel of mathematics faculty will start immediately after this deadline. We expect to have decisions on the bulk of invitations by the end of the same week.

SPECIAL EVENTS

Besides the student presentations, we are delighted to have the following distinguished speakers scheduled for YMC 2012:

Maria Chudnovsky (Columbia University)
Terence Tao    (University of California, Los Angeles)
Karen Vogtmann    (Cornell University)

As in previous years we will have our "Graduate School Orientation" event with invited representatives from several different US graduate programs in mathematics(this year's schools include Rutgers, Boston, Iowa, OSU with more to come). At this popular venue questions ranging from choices of schools, nuts and bolts of applications, and what life is like as a grad student are discussed.

We will once again hold an Outstanding Presentation Competition, and, as usual, will provide many opportunities for interaction between junior and senior conference participants.

PLEASE ADVERTISE

We ask you to forward this announcement to your students as well as any colleagues of yours who are involved in undergraduate research. You can download a poster of this year's conference in PDF format at

http://www.ymc.osu.edu/2012/docs/ymc_poster.pdf

If you would like to have a printed poster sent to you or if you have any other questions please email us at ymc@math.osu.edu .
