With multi-million dollar Intellectual Property(IP)lawsuits making headlines and IP being part of the common lexicon in business, an entrepreneur like you may wonder what all this means to your small business. What legal recourse do you have if there are copycat versions of your product on the market? What can you do if you have been slapped with a cease-and-desist letter?
In this seminar, two seasoned IP attorneys from the international law firm K&L Gates, Mr. James Fajkowski and Ms. Phi Lan Tinsley, will walk you through the following topics:
- different types of IP assets(patents, copyrights, trademarks, trade dresses, and trade secrets)and the different legal means for protecting them.
- the basics of the patenting process, non-disclosure agreements, open source and related licensing issues, and trade secrets.
- the basics of trademark law¾how to pick a good trademark, what you need to do to get your trademark registered.
- practical advice on steps to take in the event that you receive a cease-and-desist letter.
- what legal remedies are available to you when someone has misappropriated your IP assets.
