Insist on Limbaugh to Apologize Union
评论:UPDATE - From The Chinese American Professors and Professionals Network (2011 No.3)
Insist on Rush Limbaugh to Apologize
Respected major media, businesses, groups and friends:
If you don’t want to see ethnic minorities in the United States, including the Chinese, being discriminated; and you demand the maintenance of human dignity, welcome to the "Insist on Limbaugh to Apologize Union", demanding Limbaugh to make his public apology for his insulting words to the Chinese.
As reported by: "The Bay Area City News Agency, dated Jan.19, 2010", the well-known radio talk show host, Rush Limbaugh on his Wednesday show ridiculed Chinese President Hu Jintao. After getting to know this, Democratic State Senator Leland Lee, who represents San Francisco, immediately called for Limbaugh to apologize to the Chinese community for his classless act.
Limbaugh complained that Fox News radio program missed some translation during its broadcasting of Hu Jintao's speech, resulting in him only hearing President Hu Jintao speak Chinese for up to 18 seconds. Limbaugh said: "...we only hear Hu Jintao ching chong, ching chong cha ... ...” (Ching chong is a phrase Americans use to make fun by imitating early Chinese immigrants, but there is no practical meaning in the word. Now the word is interpreted as an insulting word to ridicule Chinese and Asians with accents). Limbaugh continued his abusive words for 35 seconds.
State Senator Leland Yee of San Francisco, who also serves as Chairman of the Asian and Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus, said Limbaugh's remarks are both sad and paranoid. "This is an insult to three thousand years of cultural history. This is like slapping hundreds of Chinese who are striving to succeed here in the U.S. His remarks belittle the contribution of the Chinese community. Limbaugh owes the Chinese community an apology for his pointless, ugly and offensive behavior”.
Limbaugh’s insulting words to the Chinese community quickly caused many Chinese elected representatives and officials to demand an apology from Limbaugh. The Chinese community also responded quickly, demanding Limbaugh apology.
Limbaugh, on the 20th of January, in his radio program fought back Leland Yee, accusing Leland Yee of proposing various bills to protect Asians in the California State Assembly.
Limbaugh is a well-known public figure, and he used his fame and radio program to insult the Chinese publicly. He treated his insulting words as freedom of speech. While freedom of speech is an important landmark in American democracy, is this Limbaugh’s version of democracy and human rights?
Limbaugh also attacked Mr. Yee for proposing various bills to protect Asians, stating that he is proposing: “all sorts of Asian protection Bills”, so called by Limbaugh. Limbaugh still dared to openly insult the Chinese community. “Without these protection bills, we don’t know how the Asian community, including the Chinese, will endure how many and what kinds of discrimination and insults! Does Limbaugh want the Asian minority community having no protection at all, and continue being insulted by Limbaugh?
All groups of American society, both Republican and Democratic - please do a community assessment: Is it right for Limbaugh to invoke such insults towards ethnic minorities and allow his arrogant attitude toward this issue? Is he revering the intent of democracy and human rights? Should he not apologize to the American people, including the Chinese community and to the people in China?
From Limbaugh’s current attitude, demanding him to apologize will not be an easy task. Therefore, we must form the “Insist on Limbaugh to…

Insist on Rush Limbaugh to Apologize

2.E-mail:dltaunion@gmail.com,

E-mail:dltaunion@gmail.com

Dear Friend,
Below is an article about how to complain to FCC.
In law, hate speech is any speech, gesture or conduct, writing, or display which is forbidden because it may incite violence or prejudicial action against or by a protected individual or group, or because it disparages or intimidates a protected individual or group. The law may identify a protected individual or a protected group by race, gender, ethnicity, nationality, religion, sexual orientation, or other characteristic.[3] In some countries, a victim of hate speech may seek redress under civil law, criminal law, or both. In some countries, such as the United States, hate speech laws have been held to be incompatible with free speech.[4
January 10, 2011
Rep. Louise Slaughter, D-N.Y., said in a Monday afternoon conference call that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) should work harder to sanction broadcasts that could incite people to violence.
"No one owns the airwaves," Slaughter said, "They are owned by the people."
Noting that she was not up on the current state of FCC regulations, Slaughter thought that during the recent health care debate, "she really heard" exhortations to violence...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On Wednesday January 19, 2011 during an afternoon with Rush Limbaugh on his radio program. Mr. Limbaugh mocked the Chinese people, their language and their culture in honor of the Chinese President's official state visit. Whether mr. Limbaugh thought it was funny, just a joke or what ever he thought. Mr. Limbaugh has to respect the rules of the FCC and the wishes of the American people who allow him to utilize our radio air waves to make a profit from his radio broadcasts. If you were offended by the recent actions of Rush Limbaugh or any Radio talk show host you have the right to file a complaint with the FCC, and request public hearings to determine whether racism and/or hate speech should become prohibited on America's radio air waves.
http://blogs.abcnews.com/thenote/2011/01/rush-limbaugh-mocks-chinese-president-hu-jintao.html
Here is how to file a complaint:
Step # 1: go too: www.fcc.gov
Step # 2: choose " file a complaint " on the bottom left side
Step # 3: type of complaint = broadcast [then choose "next"]
Step # 4: Complaint category = Unauthgorized, Obscene, bias, unfair, etc, etc [then choose next]
Step # 5: complete the complain form, including your complaint
Here is an example of my complaint regarding the recent activity by Rush Limbaugh:
I am deeply concerned about blatant racism expressed by radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh over federally regulated radio air waves in the United States of America. On January 19, 2011 during his radio broadcast, Mr. Limbaugh mocked Chinese people, Chinese language and Chinese culture. If the FCC prohibits obscenities and criminal dialog over regulated radio air waves, I find it hard to understand how obvious racism can be transmitted over the same federally regulated air waves. With that said, I am respectfully requesting the FCC address my concerns in public hearings. I believe the public has a right to investigate racism and hate speech on America's radio air waves, and in particular the conduct of Rush Limbaugh promoting racism upon the Chinese people during his radio broadcasts. In closing, I would like to state that obvious racism for any purpose should not and can not be tolerated.…
