Dear Zhenying,
I’m thrilled to hear that the Biden/Harris administration will lift the Trump-era Title 42 policy next month! This policy, which treats migrants as a public health threat and turns asylum seekers away at the border, does not keep our communities safe and perpetuates anti-immigrant sentiments and violence.
In February, I led a letter with Congresswoman Velázquez and Congresswoman Pressley demanding answers on how the CDC was justifying the ongoing exclusion of asylum seekers in light of the changing regulations. Like too much of our immigration system, this policy was rooted in racism and xenophobia, and scapegoating immigrants is not the solution to the pandemic.
But while this is an important win, the work doesn’t stop here. I’ve been a dedicated advocate for our immigrant communities my entire career, and with your help, I’ll continue to work towards reforming our broken system and delivering a pathway to citizenship. Are you with me?
Donald Trump’s anti-immigrant rhetoric and policy did lasting damage to our communities, even after he left office. Ending Title 42 is one important piece of rebuilding a system that prioritizes the health and safety of migrants and asylum seekers and recognizes immigrants as essential. But there is still work to do.

The AMS will hold its annual Focus Group for Directors of Graduate Studies at the Virtual 2022 Joint Mathematics Meetings on Friday, April 8, 2022, from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. PDT (6:00-7:00 p.m. EDT). Led by Torina Lewis, AMS, and Bianca Viray, paraDIGMS, the Focus Group provides chairpersons, directors of graduate studies, and other departmental leaders a venue in which to share ideas and concerns connected with the graduate mathematics experience. The gathering is also an opportunity for you to become better acquainted with some of your counterparts around the country.
As in past years, we will spend most of the time discussing issues of concern to you. We invite you to send us one issue you would most like to discuss with your fellow graduate directors.

This week, the Senate started Ketanji Brown Jackson’s confirmation hearings for the Supreme Court. She is an exceptionally qualified judge. Her professional experience as a public defender and an appellate judge as well as her personal experience as a public school-educated Black woman make her exactly the nominee we need.
I know that we can count on her to make decisions with our best interests at heart. As a successful consensus builder, her voice is especially powerful in the current moment. But none of this would have been possible without the wide coalition Democrats built in 2020 to deliver the majority in Congress and the White House. As her confirmation continues, I’m reminded of how important every election is, especially with Republican leaders who are willing to do anything possible to undermine our Democratic agenda.
In November, voters will have another chance to go to the polls, and I can’t overstate the importance of this election. If Mitch McConnel and Kevin McCarthy regain control of Congress, we can say goodbye to the progress we’ve made -- and to confirming qualified leaders to the bench. Will you chip in now so we can fight this from happening?
Everything from reproductive rights to LGBTQ+ non-discrimination protections to voting rights is at stake in this election. And while these battles are hard fought, I’m encouraged by having an ally like Judge Jackson on the Supreme Court. We need her voice -- and many more like her. Please do your part to make it possible.

评论：俄乌战争，为什么看不到真相 |
|
|
俄罗斯入侵乌克兰战争爆发后，西方主流媒体把普京蛮横的侵略扩张，说成是普京一心要恢复大俄帝国。不少人还依据这观点，洋洋洒洒梳理俄罗斯与乌克兰的千年史，试图证明俄罗斯与乌克兰的冲突，历来有自。他们把普京描述为彼得大帝沙俄帝国梦的继承者。殊不知，他们这种解释，客观上起到了为普京的战犯行为寻找合理的辩护。我不得不说，这种解释把客观事实颠倒了。不是帝国梦使得普京成为一个侵略者，而是为了维护自己的独裁统治，普京需要帝国梦！
下面我来梳理一下独裁统治的特征，你们就会明白我的解释是正确无误的解释。
一，所有的独裁统治，都是建立在武力镇压基础上的暴政统治。
二，所有的独裁统治，不管他们的口号如何蛊惑人心，承诺说得如何漂亮。本质上都是独裁者与寡头们沆瀣一气，通过窃取的权力来窃国的统治。他们打着为人民为国家的旗号，不择手段的疯狂为自己谋权谋利谋财。所有被独裁统治的国家，哪怕遍地饿殍，独裁者个人却富可敌国。
三，这种凭借暴政和权力对国民巧取豪夺的独裁统治，毫无公平正义可言。势必造成丧尽天良的贫富悬殊。
四，为了掩盖窃国真相，为了避免不满的怒火烧到自己身上，独裁统治要维持下去，就必须做到成功的愚民。愚民越成功，独裁统治就越持久。
五，开动所有的宣传机器，美化甚至神话独裁者，是重要的愚民手段之一。为此，必须打压甚至禁绝言论自由以及其他各种自由。自由是独裁统治的天敌也是死敌。唯有自由死亡，独裁才能存活。
六，自由死亡也就是创造力的死亡，也就是人才的死亡，也就是科技与人文等一切领域停滞甚至倒退。所以，一切独裁统治，必然是经济发展失败，社会伦理全面崩塌的统治。
七，独裁者为了转移视线，躲避责任，在内部把自由作为敌人的同时，必须要树立外部敌人。将国内的一切失败都归之于内外部的敌人。
八，独裁统治为了更长久的欺瞒愚民，必须要有一个能满足愚民集体虚荣心国家梦。这不仅能让愚民为这虚幻的永远不会到来迷梦产生集体兴奋激动，而且使他们对现状产生极大的忍受力，让他们以为今天受的苦，都是为了伟大理想付出的光荣自豪的代价。
九，愚民成功的标志就是愚民们彻底丧失了独立思考的能力。他们的头脑被官方所灌输的观念和教条塞得满满当当，不留下一丝独立思考的空隙。从而，一张口就自动成为官方思想的传声筒。因此不能让愚民有个人主义意识，要把他们的头脑彻底淹死在集体主义的洪流里，让愚民们成为没有灵魂没有自己独立精神，只是一具漂浮在集体主义汪洋大海上的浮尸。爱国主义、民族主义、民粹主义，是塑造集体主义迷梦与狂热的最佳手段。
十，当这以上这些手段，因为内部矛盾冲突日益巨大而开始失效甚至瓦解的时候，唯一的出路就是对外发动战争！
综上所述，不是帝国梦塑造了普京，而是普京的独裁梦需要帝国梦！ |

The Baltimore Washington International (BWI) airport opened a unique solo art exhibition featuring artist Pearl Shen on February 28, on view until May 27. The International Art Gallery in BWI will feature 14 works by Shen, including her highly regarded Blossoms Series paintings, as well as an introduction to Gongbi watercolor, a new art form to regional residents.
The exhibition is curated by Dr. Jack Rasmussen, the Director and Curator of the American University Museum at the Katzen Arts Center. Maryland First Lady Yumi Hogan and BWI CEO Ricky Smith will attend the artist reception on Thursday, April 21st from 3:00 to 5:00 PM. The gallery is near Security checkpoint D/E (pre-security). The exhibition and artist reception are free.
About Pearl Shen: Pearl is the artist member of Foundry Gallery in Washington D.C. Pearl obtained a Master of Fine Arts degree in China and immigrated to the U.S in 2014. She received Maryland State Arts Council (MSAC) Independent Artists Awards in 2019. She is currently working on a commissioned portrait painting. Pearl lives in Millersville in Shipley’s Choice.
