The 2021 Summer Institute registration is now open to all CTA members. This week-long online conference features a variety of workshops and tracks with a focus on preparing you and your local for the challenges that lie ahead with a special emphasis on the unique issues and challenges we will all face as we prepare for the new school year.
The 2021 Summer Institute – Home Edition! is free to CTA members and will start on July 26th. Do not miss this extraordinary opportunity!
The elective sessions and tracks will emulate our in-person annual Summer Institute: Communications: participants will learn why, when and how to use various communication tools for branding, education advocacy, member engagement campaigns and state and local elections. Economic Justice: members will be taught how to become knowledgeable and persuasive advocates for economic justice and the education profession, especially in these times of political extremes. Emerging Leaders: intended for all CTA members who are beginning or want to get more involved in their union. Bargaining Skills: participants will learn basic skills and knowledge important to all bargaining team members, with a focus on current bargaining issues during the COVID-19 pandemic. Instruction and Professional Development: these sessions will focus on addressing the needs of educators on how to address trauma and self-care for students and themselves. Member Benefits: these sessions will help association leaders build their skills to engage members in new ways, providing tools and resources to help your local stay on the right track and help you engineer through hazardous conditions as well. Attend these sessions to learn how to take full advantage of all the benefits available to members. Member Organizing: these sessions will focus on the skills, abilities, and proven best practices to recruit, engage, and organize members in our chapters and at every worksite. School Finance: in these sessions, attendees will learn to analyze district finances and how to use this knowledge to prepare for successful negotiations.

历史的重复不是简单的重复,历史可能以一种新的形式在重复,有的时候甚至都看不出历史在重复。丘吉尔说:“我从历史中知道,人们从来不知道吸取历史教训”(I havelearnt from history that people never learn from history)。 |

We are excited to announce the 18th annual YOUNG MATHEMATICIANS CONFERENCE to be held online from August 20 - 22, 2021 (Fri-Sun) Please mark the date and forward this announcement to any students or teachers you know are involved in undergraduate research in mathematics. Information about this year's conference will be posted and updated at http://ymc.osu.edu/
# APPLICATIONS We are inviting applications from undergraduate students involved in mathematical research (in REUs and similar programs) to present their research in talks and poster sessions. Our online application system will open in late June followed shortly by our second announcement. The deadline for applications will be Friday July 30, 5:00pm Eastern.
# SPECIAL EVENTS Besides the student presentations, we are delighted to have the following distinguished speakers to deliver plenary talks at YMC: Federico Ardila (San Francisco State University) Marissa Kawehi Loving (Georgia Tech) Jose Perea (Michigan State University) Lilian Pierce (Duke University)
# GRADUATE PROGRAM PANEL The YMC will host a graduate program panel connecting postgraduate programs with prospective students and providing prospective students with a glimpse of graduate study in mathematics. If you are interested in representing your institution on this panel, please email ymc@math.osu.edu.
# JUDGING Applications will be judged and scored right after the submission deadline by a panel of approximately 25 mathematics faculty so that we expect most decisions to be available in the week following the deadline. More info on the selection process, including tips for writing abstracts, is available during the application process.
## JUDGES WANTED We invite mathematics PhDs to volunteer to be a judge of abstracts. It provides a unique perspective on mathematical undergraduate research, and would require about five or so hours in the days following the deadline. To help with judging please email us at ymc@math.osu.edu.

Dear ZHENYING: At our recent CCA Spring Conference the CCA Council increased the voting membership of the CCA Board from 23 to 27 members by adding two LGBTQ+ at-large directors, one additional Women’s Rights/Issues at-large director (for a total of two), and one additional Ethnic/Racial Minority at-large director (for a total of two). Since Dorothy Reina was elected to the District K Director position, both Ethnic/Minority At-Large positions are currently vacant. Although the boundaries of “North” and “South” are not defined at present, we expect the elected at-large directors to divide the state between them so as to efficiently serve all 45 CCA locals. In addition, the geographic Director F-1 position serving the faculty at Chaffey College, Long Beach City College, and the N. Orange CCD is currently vacant. These vacancies will be up for election at our Fall Conference in October, but I am able to appoint interim directors to serve until then. Interim directors will be asked to attend our June planning meeting (on 11-12 June), the September Board meeting (on 17-18 September), and the October Board meeting (on 15 October). The CCA Board collectively guides CCA''''s advocacy, networking, and training efforts. If you know of a CCA member who might be interested in one of the interim positions noted below, please have them contact me at president@cca4us.org, preferably by 2 June. Yours in unity,
Eric Kaljumägi CCA President
Available positions (interim appointment through October 2021): District F-1 (Chaffey, Long Beach, N. Orange – through May 2023) Women’s Rights/Issues At-Large South (through May 2022) Racial/Ethnic Minority At-Large North (through May 2023) Racial/Ethnic Minority At-Large South (through May 2022) LGBTQ+ At-Large North (through May 2023) LGBTQ+ At-Large South (through May 2022)
Requirements: Board members must be active members of CCA/CTA/NEA. Board members shall be available for CCA Board meetings and other Directorial duties. The Racial/Ethnic Minority Directors shall be a member of a racial/ethnic minority group as defined by CTA/NEA specifications (African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian, Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander, or Hispanic). The Women’s Rights/Issues Directors shall be women. The Part-Time Faculty Directors shall be part-time faculty members. The LGBTQ+ Directors shall be self-identified members of the LGBTQ+ community.
Duties (abridged – a full list may be seen in the CCA Bylaws on the CCA website): Attend eight annual CCA Board meetings (usually June, September, October, November, January, February, March, and April – these meetings are often Friday-Saturday in-person events in Sacramento). Attend the two annual CCA Council meetings at the CCA Fall and Spring conference. Participate actively at all CCA conferences. Attend assigned committee and task force meetings. Provide a written report for each CCA Board meeting that summarizes important information from their constituents. Provide a written report after each CCA Board meeting that summarizes the meeting to their constituents. Promote the identification, representation, and participation of their constituent group. Serve as a liaison between their constituencies and the Board. Assist chapters and the CCA VP with membership recruitment. Communicate CCA, CTA, and NEA positions to their constituencies. Gather data and information relevant to their constituencies. |
