The "Korean Cool" in China
Saturday, March 26th, 2:00PM-4:00PM
40 Rector Street, 2nd Floor, New York, NY 10006
For the last 25 years, South Korea has emerged as the world's leading pop culture powerhouse, exporting an irresistible "Korean Cool (pop music, TV dramas and movies)" to much of the world. Ms. Ma Xue, a cultural critic, television host and producer, was among the first in China to witness the effect of the wave. She helped accelerate the influx of Korean pop music and TV dramas by starting a program on South Korean culture for China National Radio in 2001, quickly making a name for herself as the "Godmother of the Korean Cool in China." At this lecture, Ms. Ma will trace the history of the Korean Cool and discuss the reasons for the conquering power of the Korean pop culture. (This lecture is in Chinese) Learn More
年前,西方主流媒體(如《經濟學家》、《紐約時報》等紛紛載文,介紹洪又妮的新書《韓酷的誕生:一個國家是怎樣通過流行文化征服了世界》(The Birth of Korean Cool: How One Nation Is Conquering the World Through Pop Culture)。
華美人文學會的地址是100 Washington Street, New York, NY 10006(入口處在40 Rector Street), 4、5地鐵到Wall Street下,1、N、R車到Rector Street下,A、C車到Fulton Street下。人文學會電話﹕(646) 912-8861,電郵:renwen@chinainstitute.org.

Invitation from AAS:
We sincerely invite you to attend Seminar on Bilingual Digital Publishing of Asian Studies Journals
March 31, 2016, 4:00pm--5:30pm
Sheraton Hotel, Aspen Room
Asian Studies has attracted the attention of scholars worldwide, who are in urgent need of China's latest researches and academic findings. Under the circumstances, it is imperative that China’s top academic journals be translated into English and published bilingually. It will help overseas readers to use their native or familiar language in China studies and improve their researching efficiency, meanwhile help the East Asian libraries to expand their services in short time. Journal Translation Project (JTP), launched by CNKI in 2012, will finally come on the stage of AAS with great performance. After three years’ development, JTP has grown much stronger and more mature. With respect to journal and article selection, it presents international research findings from top Chinese scholars based on scientific big-data analysis and professional evaluation. As for the translation, all the articles are translated by overseas scholars with excellent academic background and proficiency in Chinese-English translation, and polished by native speakers in the position of assistant (or higher) professor. Concerning the product design, it adopts the most advanced XML technology in an international style, which will optimize the user experience for scholars. We are more than honored to have chief editors of these journals, translators, quality control experts and designers with us in the seminar and exchange ideas on the bilingual publishing of Asian Studies journals.
