猴年伊始，位于第五大道的微软旗舰店与福德姆大学(Fordham University)Gabelli商学院的会计学教授萧俭合作推出猴年会计管理系列讲座(Global Management Accounting Bee @Microsoft Store Series)和中国文化系列讲座(Lucas Adventure Bee @Microsoft Store Series)两项活动。该活动旨在增加旗舰店与顾客的互动，同时也以非常生动活泼的形式，在第五大道的核心商业区向纽约客和世界各地的游客介绍中国传统文化: 中国传统属相文化和汉字结构的讲解。两个系列活动都是每月穿插举行，其中主题为“跟Lucas一起探索中国文化”的中国文化系列讲座，安排在每个月的第三个礼拜六。为该系列活动担任志愿者的华人学生来自中国各地，甚至台湾。上述系列活动的地点位于第五大道677号二楼。欲了解更多活动详情以及注册报名信息，请登陆微软网站www.MicrosoftStore.com进行查看。

上海纽约大学（New York University Shanghai）校长俞立中将于3月3日在南湾帕洛阿图的索菲亚大学（Sofia Unversity）举办讲座，以该校为例，谈中美高等教育合作和全球教育。上海纽约大学是经中国教育部正式批准、具有独立法人资格和学位授予权的第一所中美合作举办的国际化大学，也是纽约大学全球教育体系的组成部分。该校于2011年01月19日筹建，由纽约大学、华东师范大学联合办学，也是世界一流大学携手中国985工程重点大学——华东师范大学创建的第一所具有独立法人资格的中美合作大学，与纽约大学阿布扎比分校(NYU Abu Dahbi）、纽约大学纽约分校（NYU New York）共同组成纽约大学全球系统中的三个具有学位授予权的门户校园。本活动由华东师大、中国高校校友联合会主办，北加州各高校校友会协办。讲座时间为3月3日下午6时45分至8时45分，地址是Sofia Unversity Room 1059A, 1069 East Meadow Circle, Palo Alto, CA 94303。

The 14th International Ethnographic Film Festival, which is going to be on the weekend of March 4-5th 2016, hosted by USC. This film festival is a biennial film festival originally hosted in Great Britain by the Royal Anthropological Institute, and then the Center for Visual Anthropology of USC hosts the LA venue. We did the 13th one in 2014 at USC. That was a great success. This year’s film festival is going to a great one. We basically only screen the reward winners, which makes the fest more compact and attractive.
Another special feature of this year’s festival is that we have a section focusing on China and East Asian issues. We think it’s gonna be really interesting for East Asian scholars to come and participate in the discussions about the films. There will be good receptions, speeches and Q&As during the screenings. Now everything is ready to go. We believe it’s going to be a great event. Please spread the words to more Chinese or Asian scholars who would be interested.

The Silk Road is a historically important international trade route between China and the Mediterranean. Over the centuries, the Silk Roads were an important conduit for the exchange of products and technologies from China to the West. These exchanges were critical not only for the development and flowering of the great civilizations of Rome, China, and India, but they laid the foundations of our modern world. Silk, paper, and porcelain were three of the most sophisticated products of pre-modern technology. The class will evaluate the importance of these three products as elements in cultural diffusion along the Silk Roads, and each student will make their own paper and bring it home!
