美西華人學會將於2015年9月20日（星期日）下午2時至5時於洛僑中心舉辦科工組學術研討會，主題為”飲水思源：開源節流”，由水資源專家王竹青博士，吳基銜博士與比爾.麥唐納先生講述南加州飲用水之來源，加州旱情簡報與”聖嬰現象”對新水年度的降雨影響，水務局對節約用水所提供的各種資訊與鼓勵辦法，水資源的遠程整體規劃，與地下水資源的保護和應用。研討會召集人為王竹青博士，研討會深入淺出，邀請並歡迎您免費參加。
時間： 2015年9月20日（星期日）,下午2時至5時
地點： 洛杉磯華僑文教服務中心， 9443 Telstar Ave. El Monte, CA 91731
加州已經連續三年為乾旱年，水源地降雨不足，今年高山積雪更創歷史新低，各地水庫儲水量也大幅下降至容量的1/3 或1/4以下，供水黃燈亮起。加州州長布朗於4月1日發佈行政命令，要求全州達到25%的省水要求。各地供水機構也提供各種獎懲辦法，推廣節約用水，以求共渡時艱達到省水目標。南加州沿海區正常平均年降雨量僅14.5英吋，屬於半乾旱地帶，可是在這僅5200平方英哩的地帶，常年的陽光普照，卻蘊育著一千九百萬人口（加州人口的50%）與一兆美元的經濟，水是維護這人口與經濟發展的最重要天然資源之一。
水從哪裡來? 南加州的水資源實在是”北水南調”，＂東水西調”的高度工程與管理的成果。美西華人學會特舉辦此科工組學術研討會，主題為”飲水思源：開源節流”，由水資源專家們講述南加州飲用水之來源，加州旱情簡報與”聖嬰現象”對新水年度的降雨影響，水務局對節約用水所提供的各種資訊與鼓勵辦法，水資源的遠程整體規劃，與地下水資源的保護和應用。希望藉由此研討會，喚起民眾的了解，南加州的水，實在是＂一點一滴，當思來處不易”，進而將節約用水，變成生活習慣的一部分，而非僅是旱災時的緊急措施。
研討會的講題如下:

c. “Drought condition update & forecast, El Nino Effect旱情報導”
2. Mr. Bill McDonnell (MWD Water Use Efficiency Manager): Water use efficiency/conservation practice and programs in Southern California
3. Dr. Eric Wu ( Water Quality Control Board, Chief of Groundwater Permitting Unit): “Water Board groundwater and watershed management”
