The race to 2016 is well underway, Eddie. And now that we've heard from these candidates, we know it's more important than ever that we work to elect Democrats up and down the ticket next year so that we don't see all the progress we've made together come undone.
We simply can't afford policies that take our country backwards, and those are exactly the kinds of policies Republicans are serving up on a silver platter.
We've heard outrageous things on issues like immigration, women's health, making health care affordable for every American, raising the minimum wage, and so much more. Special Operations Medical & Scientific Assembly (SOMSA) Call for Abstracts

SUBMISSION DEADLINE - October 1, 2015
The Special Operations Medical Association (SOMA) is calling for abstracts to be submitted for the research portion of the Special Operations Medical and Scientific Assembly (SOMSA 16) to improve communication and encourage scholarly collaboration among all healthcare personnel in operational medicine. The full spectrum of research will be considered including basic science, case reports, reviews, clinical studies, experiments, and other scholarly works. We seek original research as focus submissions in topics relevant to the mission of SOMA. We expect medics and forward providers to co-author relevant submissions. The use of the English language is expected.
Please submit a brief 300 word abstract using the link located on the SOMA website by 1600 EST on October 1, 2015. The abstract submission site will be open until the deadline of October 1, 2015. Submissions must be entered into this electronic system. Submissions received after this date will be considered only if there is a shortage of adequate submissions. The 2015 Defense Centers of Excellence for Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury (DCoE) Summit: Continuum of Care and Care Transitions in the Military Health System will be held Sept. 9-11, 2015. This year's summit combines a "live" in-person event at Defense Health Headquarters (DHHQ) in Falls Church, Virginia, with a "virtual" online component to reach a wider audience.
This year's summit will promote a collaborative approach to meeting the psychological health and traumatic brain injury (TBI) needs of today's service members, veterans and their beneficiaries in all treatment contexts and phases of recovery. The psychological health and TBI tracks will address factors that challenge and facilitate the provision of quality, sustained health services across care transitions and the continuum of care. The 2015 Military Health System Research Symposium will be held from 17 Aug to 20 Aug 2015 at the Marriott Harbor Beach Resort, Ft. Lauderdale, FL.

Psychological Health Webinar: The Impact of Sexual Assault and Treatment Options
According to a Department of Health and Human Services, Children''''s Bureau fiscal year 2012 report, U.S. state and local child protective services received an estimated 3.4 million referrals of children being abused or neglected. Of these child victims, 9 percent were victims of sexual abuse. The National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey 2010 Summary Report identified that one in two women (44.6 percent) and one in five men (22.2 percent) experienced sexual violence other than rape in their lifetime. Victims of sexual assault often experience a range of psychological and emotional disorders including rape trauma syndrome, depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress. The psychological and emotional trauma these victims experience can also manifest itself in physical reactions such as stomach aches, headaches, and back problems. Well researched trauma-informed treatment approaches and applicable prevention methods have proven to show positive outcomes for reducing the impact of the abuse.
