We welcome proposals from a variety of disciplines and perspectives that will contribute to the conference discourse. We also encourage faculty and research students to submit joint proposals for paper presentations or colloquia. Proposals are invited that address aging and society through one of the following themes:
Conference Themes
• Economic and Demographic Perspectives on Aging
• Public Policy and Public Perspectives of Aging
• Medical Perspectives on Aging, Health, and Wellness
• Social and Cultural Perspectives on Aging
• Special Focus: Inter-generational Relationships
2015 Special Focus: Inter-generational Relationships
The aging population is increasing at an unprecedented rate. In 2006 there were almost 500 million people aged 65 and older with that number projected to increase to 1 billion by 2030. By 2050 1 in 5 people will be over the age of 60 with more people 60 and over in the world population than between the ages of 0-14. With an increasing aging population its more important than ever for the generations to learn how to relate to each other. Different values and perceptions of the world can lead to difficulties in relationships and links that facilitate understanding across generations need to be created. The 2015 Aging and Society Conference special focus on inter-generational relationships will explore the the barriers, benefits, and ways to facilitate inter-generational relationships.
