Please support us to pass the Caifornia Senate SJR 23 Apology of 1843 Chinese Exclusion Act, currently on the floor of the CA Senate. Congress repealed the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1943 and both Chambers (Congress) have recently passed a resolution of Regrete not Apology for the 1943 Exclusion Act and other discriminatory laws. We need to go back to US Congress for an Apology long past due to the Chinese Americans. Dr. Sophie C. Wong, Member, Congressional Apology to Chinese Americans Committee 626-825-7735 FYI!! Great News!! Hong Yeng Chang was an Ivy League graduate thought to be the first Chinese-born, United States-trained lawyer when the California Supreme Court denied his application to practice law in a 1890 decision. Now, students at a Northern California law school hope to persuade the current court to reverse the 124-year-old decision that is still studied in law schools.

Dear colleagues and students, We are excited to announce the eleventh YOUNG MATHEMATICIANS CONFERENCE at The Ohio State University on August 22 - 24, 2014 (Fri-Sun) Please mark the date and forward this announcement to any students or teachers you know are involved in undergraduate research in mathematics. All information about this year's conference has been posted or will be updated at http://ymc.osu.edu APPLICATIONS We are inviting applications from undergraduate students involved in REUs and similar programs to present their research in talks and poster sessions. We expect to invite and fully support around seventy student presenters, and hope to be able to provide partial support for accompanying mentors who are also invited to apply (please visit our website for more details on funding and travel reimbursement). Online applications will open in mid June followed shortly by our second announcement. The deadline for applications will be Monday July 21 5:00pm EDT As in previous years we will have our "Graduate School Orientation" event with invited representatives from several different US graduate programs in mathematics. At this popular venue students are encouraged to ask questions ranging from choices of schools, nuts and bolts of applications, and what life is like as a grad student. As usual, the conference will provide many opportunities for interaction between junior and senior conference participants.
JUDGING Applications will be judged and scored right after the submission deadline by a panel of approximately 50 mathematics faculty so that we expect most decisions to be available in the week following the deadline. Last year we had 157 applicants (with 130 projects) from which 67 participants (presenting 51 projects) were selected. Judges Wanted If you are interested in undergraduate research, hold a mathematics Ph.D. (preferably faculty position), have four or so hours time and internet access in the days following the deadline, and would like to help with judging please email us at ymc@math.osu.edu for details. Please disclose possible conflicts of interests so we can try to work around them. The conference is funded under NSF Grant DMS-1252904 (2013-2015) and supported with additional funds by the Department of Mathematics at The Ohio State University. For any additional questions and comments please contact us at ymc@math.osu.edu
Sincerely, YMC 2014 Organizing Committee
