Please join me in welcoming to Monterey Park Speaker Nancy Pelosi for a fundraiser on Monday, June 17th from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Ocean Star Restaurant. In January of this year, Nancy Pelosi made history once again, becoming the first and only woman to be Speaker of the House of Representatives. She is the most powerful woman in the United States.
Let us celebrate her accomplishments, as well as her strength in standing up to President Trump. Under her leadership, the American people elected a Democratic majority to the House of Representatives. Already, the new majority has denied the president''''s request to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, has begun investigating potential conflicts of interest violations by administration officials, and has begun work on lowering prescription drug prices. Clearly, it is critical that we keep our majority in the House.
Speaker Pelosi will talk about the challenges and opportunities in the 2020 election, the value that our diverse members bring to Congress, and how the House is standing in the way of the Trump administration''''s efforts to destroy the Affordable Care Act, gut clean air and water regulations, and stop immigrants from succeeding in this country. Please join Leader Nancy Pelosi and me to make sure that Democrats have the resources they need to win and keep our majority.

This Talk will be presented in Chinese
Xue Yiwei is from Changsha, Hunan province. He studied computer engineering at the Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and has since earned a master’s degree in English and American literature from Université de Montréal and a doctorate in linguistics from the Guangdong University of Foreign Studies. From 1996 to 2002, he taught at the Shenzhen University Liberal Arts College, and from 2006 to 2007, he wrote book columns for Southern Weekly and Essays. From 2009 to 2010, he resided at the City University of Hong Kong as a visiting scholar. In 1991 he received the United Daily News Literature Award“. A maverick in contemporary Chinese literature” (to quote Ha Jin), he is acclaimed author of twenty books in Chinese, including five novels, five collections of short stories and novellas, and five literary essays. His works have been translated into English, French, Swedish, German and Italian.

有關此次2020台灣島內領導人選舉，北加州中國和平統一促進會認為，它將直接關係海峽兩岸未來和平及島內經濟榮衰。
本會呼籲全球海外僑胞團結一致，支持主張中國和平統一及積極建立兩岸溝通管道，促進兩岸經濟互惠發展的候選人。
本會認為唯有這樣的領導人，才可以带領台灣走出經濟衰落及兩岸僵持的困境。

北大校庆论坛 | “五四”百年：知识分子的声音与中国未来
五四烽火，光耀百年。1919年的春雷，发出了一个民族求索的呐喊，翻开了历史的全新一页。回顾百年，五四运动改变了中国的面貌，五四精神深深影响了一个民族。爱国的情怀，进步的渴望，民主与科学的理想，伴随着五四运动以及之后百年历史的风云激荡，与一代又一代人的精神共振回响。一百年前，北京大学蔡元培、傅斯年等师生，在五四运动中发挥了中流砥柱的力量。一百年后，北京大学大纽约地区校友将联合社会各界，再次回顾五四的光荣历程，思索历史，迎接未来。为纪念五四运动一百周年，北京大学大纽约地区校友会将与华美协进社(China Institute)于5月5日下午1点至5点共同举办“五四百年：知识分子的声音与中国未来“论坛。论坛将通过一个下午的交流，对文学与知识分子的角色，女权运动的兴起，当今中国面对历史的挑战——三个议题展开深入探讨。

美国的社区学院是美国普及高等教育的法宝，也是培养实用的职业人才的最佳场所。在我们大学校友，LA Mission College 洛杉矶使命社区学院副院长，Daniel Villanueva的热心安排下，我们带江苏省职业和社区教育代表团在这里参观访问了半天，发现了很多惊喜之处和精彩亮点！在新建的艺术中心开设的影视戏剧项目每季度都有新戏上演，不断地为UC和CSU加州大学系统输送高年级学生，也为好莱坞影视工业直接培养了大批技术人才。
美国所有的社区学院均与四年制大学（包括所谓名牌大学）有转学的协议，学生在这里学完大学头两年的课程之后（对当地居民免费）可以很方便地转入四年制大学，包括一流大学。因此美国不存在高考的压力。任何人在任何时候（18岁以后），只要想上大学都可以去社区学院学习，不需要任何考试成绩也不需要出示高中毕业文凭和成绩单。每个社区学院都设有转学咨询办公室。
这里的负责人自豪地告诉我们，他们去年毕业的七百多学生中，有四百多是可以转入四年制大学的，不少学生去了加州大学和州立大学，还有成功地转入哈佛大学的！这里的校园位于Sylmar 山谷，环境安全优美，干净整洁，明亮和宽敞的餐饮大厅和书店商场大楼为师生提供了舒适的歇息和聚会场所，楼上安静和精致的学院图书馆和楼下忙碌热闹的职业咨询中心也是学生最爱光顾和逗留的地方。学院著名的烹饪学校师生为代表团准备了丰盛的午餐和下午茶点。一位从中国无锡来的厨师/学生小周跟大家分享了体会，并表示他很满意在这里学习会计和烹饪学。他准备转入我们大学，而不是名校UCLA，去继续学习会计专业，因为我们大学的项目更加实用。很高兴地看到他已经冲破了很多中国家长和学生固有的名校观念的束缚，在追求自己喜欢的学习和事业。这次访问给中国教育代表团留下了深刻的印象，也为中美院校进一步深度合作打下了基础，一定能为更多的中国学生创造更广阔的学习和就业前景！ |
