The 2023 International Symposium on Nonlinear Theory and Its Applications (NOLTA2023) will be held at Cittadella Campus of the University of Catania, Catania, Italy, Sep. 26–29, 2023. The objective of the symposium is to provide a forum for exchange of the latest results related to nonlinear theory and its applications. Dear Zhenying,
This week, voters in Wisconsin delivered a huge win for reproductive rights — and once again proved just how unpopular abortion restrictions are. Despite that, there have been extreme measures advancing in Idaho, Kansas, and other Republican-controlled states across the country.
The Kansas law — which has a veto-proof majority — is dangerous for patients and doctors, and is yet another example of extremists ignoring voters'''' voices. Last summer, abortion was directly on the Kansas ballot, and voters protected it — but the legislature is still targeting Kansans' rights.
This direct disregard for voters' input, and the patchwork of different laws and bans, is exactly why we need federal abortion protections. We need to defend reproductive rights for patients in every part of every state — and that means we need to get to work to elect abortion rights supporters up and down the ballot. Will you be a part of it?

The Mathematical Association of America (MAA) and the University of Colorado Boulder (CU-B) are implementing a new online teaching- and learning-focused professional development program which will reach higher education professionals, including those who have been less able to travel due to various constraints. SIMIODE is proud to be a part of this effort with an intensive workshop, Modeling Inspiration for Differential Equations, (5,6,7,9 June 2023 intensive, online 5 hours/day) for teachers who wish to do modeling in their differential equations course. A team of colleagues will engage participants in modeling activities so they experience the activity as students and then support them as they teach units to workshop colleagues to feel the joy of using modeling in teaching.
Participants will learn to incorporate mathematical modeling into the teaching of differential equations using research-based, learner-centered pedagogy that is known to support gains in self-efficacy, proficiency, and interest in mathematics.
Participants will receive a wide range of specific, robust modeling activities that foster an equitable and inclusive environment for students. Workshop facilitators will discuss the pedagogical advantages of a modeling-first approach and indicate a variety of ways to incorporate these activities into an active classroom, and participants will engage with technology that facilitates active learning.
During this intense four-day workshop, participants will experience activities as learners before collaboratively preparing (using class-tested materials provided) and practice-teaching a module in our supportive workshop environment. Participants are invited to continue their involvement beyond the workshop by engaging with the community and free repository of Systemic Initiative for Modeling Investigations and Opportunities with Differential Equations (SIMIODE).
As a supplemental aid to using the vast repository of materials, participants will receive a FREE COPY of the highly praised, low-cost pdf textbook, Differential Equations: Modeling the Real World. We welcome anyone with strong interest at any level of experience with differential equations or active learning.
