Ambassador to China slams Ishihara''s Senkakus plan

LONDON — Japan''s ambassador to China, Uichiro Niwa, has strongly criticized Tokyo Gov. Shintaro Ishihara''s plan to buy the disputed Senkaku Islands in an interview published by a British newspaper Thursday.
Ishihara''s envisioned purchase of three of the Senkaku islets in the East China Sea that are also claimed and referred to by China as the Diaoyu isles, could result in "an extremely grave crisis" in economic and other bilateral relations, Niwa told the Financial Times.
While the move faces a variety of obstacles, a mere prepurchase survey of the islands could be "diplomatically incendiary," Niwa said. "We cannot allow decades of past effort to (come) to nothing."
Foreign Minister Koichiro Genba immediately admonished Niwa over the remarks, advising him that his personal views "differ from the stance of the government" and instructing him to be more diplomatic in the future, according to government officials.
Chief Cabinet Secretary Osamu Fujimura also said Thursday that Niwa was only expressing his own viewpoint in the interview and that they are not representative of the government's position on the issue.
The Financial Times described Niwa''s remarks as "by far the strongest sign of Japanese central government disquiet" over Ishihara''s move to acquire the three islets from a private titleholder based in Saitama Prefecture.

“Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” star Zhang Ziyi sued two media outlets for defamation over stories alleging she received millions of yuan to have sex with suspended Politburo member Bo Xilai and other Chinese leaders. Zhang suffered “immense grievance and distress” because of the stories, which she denied, her lawyers said in the complaint filed yesterday at the High Court of Hong Kong . The suit named Apple Daily Ltd., Next Magazine Publishing Ltd., and their top editors over stories that Zhang was paid 700 million yuan ($110 million) over 10 years to have sex with Bo, “unnamed high government officials” and other rich people. The suit also denied allegations in the stories that Zhang was questioned as part of a government investigation into Bo and was barred from leaving China . The stories, published in May, “are seriously defamatory of and concerning the plaintiff and are false,” the lawsuit said. Zhang has “been subjected to public odium, hatred, contempt or ridicule,” it said.
Zhang is seeking an injunction to stop the republication of the stories from the two outlets, which are owned by Next Media Ltd. (282) Company Chairman Jimmy Lai declined to comment, his assistant Samantha Fung said in a phone interview. Bo was ousted as Communist Party secretary of the municipality of Chongqing and suspended from China’s Politburo after his wife was arrested on suspicion she was involved in the murder of a British businessman. Bo has not been seen in public since the end of the National People’s Congress in Beijing in mid-March.
The actress starred in movies including “Rush Hour 2” and “House of Flying Daggers,” and was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for her role in “Memoirs of a Geisha.” Zhang also filed a separate lawsuit against a news website in the U.S., the South China Morning Post reported today. The case is Zhang Ziyi and Apple Daily Ltd., Cheung Kim- hung, Next Magazine Publishing Ltd., Li Chi-ho, HCA1002/2012 in the Court of First Instance.

端午节快到了，单位发了一大箱粽子。女同事力气小，搬不动，叫男同事帮她送回去。到了女同事家楼下。她对男同事说：你在楼下等等我，我上去看看，要是我老公在，我就叫他下来搬；若是他不在，那就得麻烦你帮我搬上去。过了一会儿，MM站在她家的阳台上朝下叫：你上来吧！我老公不在家，快点上来！; 此话一出，惊动了左邻右舍，大家都跑到阳台上来看。搞得男同事在众目睽睽下，上也不是，走也不。MM以为对方没有听清楚，双手做了一个喇叭状放在嘴巴边更大声叫道：听到没？我老公不在家，快点上来！听到此言，男同事顿时觉得面红耳赤，正想打电话给阳台上的MM，刚刚掏出手机，MM双手又做喇叭状：你不用给你老婆打电话，我把门打开了，完事就让你走，抓紧时间，赶快! 当时男同事羞愧的简直气血攻心，提起粽子就奔向楼梯，在进楼道最后一刻听到楼上MM又喊了一声：进门记得右边是卧室，左边是厨房，别走错了。此时，男同事立刻昏倒!

How Can an Online System Help Us with Assessment, Data Management, and Accreditation?

The Portland State University Graduate School of Education moved to their online assessment system in January 2007 and, in the time since, have expanded online usage from one program to plans for all programs. Dr. David Bullock will review the challenges that the online system has helped the school to overcome and the impact that the system has had on PSU’s assessment plan, data management, and preparation for accreditation at both the state and national levels. Some of the key areas of PSU’s Tk20 system usage that will be covered include: field experience assessments, advising, key assignments, other coursework tools such as exams and quizzes, the handouts area, the “forum” threaded discussion tool, and online admissions.
Dr. David Bullock, A Manager of Technology & Director of the Metropolitan Instructional Support Laboratory, Graduate School of Education, Portland State University. David has been an Assistant Professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction and Director of the Metropolitan Instructional Support Laboratory in the Graduate School of Education at Portland State University since 1994. Since 2007, he has also held the role of Manager of Technology for the Graduate School of Education. David holds a B.A. in Curriculum & Instruction from the University of Oregon, an M.S. in Educational Communications & Technology from Western Oregon State College, and an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from Portland State University. David''''s doctoral dissertation was titled Preparing for the Journey: Lessons Learned from Preservice Teachers as They Practice Teaching with Technology. His published work has been included THE Journal: Technological Horizons in Education, Interactive Teaching and Learning in a Global in Context, and the Society for Instructional Technology in Teacher Education conference proceedings.
