How Can an Online System Help Us with Assessment, Data Management, and Accreditation?
Dr. David Bullock

The Portland State University Graduate School of Education moved to their online assessment system in January 2007 and, in the time since, have expanded online usage from one program to plans for all programs. Dr. David Bullock will review the challenges that the online system has helped the school to overcome and the impact that the system has had on PSU’s assessment plan, data management, and preparation for accreditation at both the state and national levels. Some of the key areas of PSU’s Tk20 system usage that will be covered include: field experience assessments, advising, key assignments, other coursework tools such as exams and quizzes, the handouts area, the “forum” threaded discussion tool, and online admissions.
Dr. David Bullock, A Manager of Technology & Director of the Metropolitan Instructional Support Laboratory, Graduate School of Education, Portland State University. David has been an Assistant Professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction and Director of the Metropolitan Instructional Support Laboratory in the Graduate School of Education at Portland State University since 1994. Since 2007, he has also held the role of Manager of Technology for the Graduate School of Education. David holds a B.A. in Curriculum & Instruction from the University of Oregon, an M.S. in Educational Communications & Technology from Western Oregon State College, and an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from Portland State University. David''''s doctoral dissertation was titled Preparing for the Journey: Lessons Learned from Preservice Teachers as They Practice Teaching with Technology. His published work has been included THE Journal: Technological Horizons in Education, Interactive Teaching and Learning in a Global in Context, and the Society for Instructional Technology in Teacher Education conference proceedings.

亚裔传统奖颁奖筹委会（Asian Heritage Awards Planning Committee）22位成员日前在圣地亚哥中文学校召开筹备会议，启动今年第九届亚裔传统奖推选和颁奖各项准备工作，初步商定今年9月15日假市中心马奎斯万豪酒店（ Marriott Marquis ）举行第九届亚裔传统奖的颁奖式。
连续八年颁发的「亚裔传统奖」由传媒业者罗莎琳‧卡门与列奥纳德‧纳瓦罗（Rosalynn Carmen & Leonard Navarro）发起，着眼于南加州各亚裔社区，旨在表彰教育、商务、企业管理、法律、科技、政府、医药、传媒、文学、文化保护、演艺、社会责任、军事、人道济贫与社区服务等各个领域的亚裔杰出代表。参加这次筹备会议的有来自中、日、韩、泰、寮、越、菲、印等族裔代表，与会者积极就今年的颁奖活动相关事宜进行了初步商议，并计划一个月后再召开会议作进一步商讨。 |

美國國務卿──希拉里，近期在 美國著名的哈佛大學演講，對將 來的中國發表預測：20年後， 中國將成為全球最窮的國 家。她給出的依據是：
1. 從申請移民的情況看，中國太多的官員家屬和富豪已申請移民，或有移民意願。一個國家的既得利益階層為什麼對自己的國家失去信心？令人 費解！
2. 中國人不了解他們作為社會個體應該對國家和社會所承擔的責任和義務，更不知道對國際社會應負的責任和義務。所受的教育，或者是宣傳媒體基本上都是仇視或妖 魔化他人或他國，讓人民喪失理性和公正的判斷。
3. 中國人是世界上少數沒有信仰的可怕國家之一。全民上上下下唯一的崇拜就是權力和金錢，自私自利。沒有愛心、失卻同情心的大國能獲得國際社會的尊重和信任 嗎？
4. 中國人民大眾過去是權力的奴隸，演變為金錢的奴隸。大多數中國人從來就沒有學到過什麼是體面和尊敬的生活意義。對民眾而言，唯有獲取權力或金錢就是生活的一切，就是成功。全民腐敗、墮落、茫然的現象，在人類歷史上空前絕後！
5. 對環境資源的破壞幾近瘋狂。這樣奢靡、浪費的生活方式，需要幾個地球才能供給？怎麼不能讓他國擔憂？！
她說，中國不能總是把注意力和民眾的關注轉移他國，把自己的壓力轉嫁給外部世界。應當順應時代潮流和 人類文明趨勢，主動變革，關心民生，重視民主。否則，中國只能越來越不穩定，將會出現大 的社會動蕩和人道災難，20年後，中國將成為全球最窮的國 家。這或將是全人類的災難，同樣會是美國的災難。 |
