The Biggest Market By Far: Video Gaming In China
Date: Thursday, March 8
Time: 4:00-5:30pm
Location: Annenberg School for Communication & Journalism, ASC 207, USC
Free

With 600 million gamers (nearly twice the population of the US), China is the single-most important market in the world for PC online and mobile games, and dominates the global esports market. China's Tencent is the largest game company in the world. This talk will discuss the factors driving the market as well as the trends in what gamers prefer, companies, games, and competitors that are important.

In 2002 Lisa Hanson built the first baseline study on the Chinese games market. For 16years, as founder and managing partner of Niko Partners, she's helped game publishers, platforms, hardware companies, hedge funds, media companies, trade associations, consulting firms, and consumer brands understand and succeed in China and Southeast Asia, which are the largest and fastest growing games markets in the world. Lisa built a team of analysts based in Asia, the US and the UK to provide market research and consulting about the digital games markets in Asia.
Prior to Niko, Lisa was Lead Strategist at Viant Corporation, Director at IDC, and a financial analyst in London and in Tokyo. She has a MA in International Economic Policy from The American University's School of International Service, and a BA in Political Science/International Relations from UCLA.

1. FDA has recently approved the Becton Dickinson (BD) Onclarity HPV Assay to be marketed. This is an automated laboratory test used on the BD Viper LT system. This test detects DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) from 14 high risk human papillomavirus (HPV) types that are associated with cervical cancer. The test specifically identifies HPV types 16, 18 and 45 while concurrently detecting types 31, 33, 35, 39, 51, 52, 56, 58, 59, 66 and 68.

Human papillomaviruses (HPVs) are a group of over 150 related viruses. Each HPV virus in this large group is given a number which is called its HPV type. Some HPV types can lead to cancer. HPV is transmitted through intimate skin-to-skin contact.

2. FDA has recently approved the Impella Ventricular Support Systems to be marketed. The Impella Ventricular Support Systems are left-side heart pump systems intended to help pump blood in patients who need short-term support (up to 6 days). The system includes a mini heart pump (Impella 2.5, Impella CP, or Impella 5.0/LD) mounted at the end of a thin, flexible tube (catheter), a console that drives the pump, and an infusion system that flushes the pump.

3. The FDA has recently approved the following devices to be marketed:

RHA® 2, RHA® 3, and RHA® 4 Dermal Fillers
RHA Dermal Fillers are clear, colorless, injectable gels that can correct facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds. RHA Dermal Fillers come in 3 different formulations: RHA® 2, RHA® 3, and RHA® 4. Each contains hyaluronic acid made using a Streptococcus equi bacterial strain. They also contain a small amount of local anesthetic (lidocaine) to help reduce pain of the injection.

Cheatham Platinum (CP) Stent System (Covered CP Stent and Covered Mounted CP Stent)
The Covered CP Stent is a metal framework covered with cloth to patch a blood vessel tear in patients born with heart defects. This device was approved previously to reopen a blocked or narrowed aorta. The stents are placed using a balloon in balloon (BiB) catheter (a long tube).

TriVisc
TriVisc is a sterile sodium hyaluronate solution that is used to relieve knee pain due to osteoarthritis. It is injected into the knee join to supplement the viscous (thick) fluid in the knee.

The Inscribed Studio Photo as “I-Portrait”: Photographing a New Self in Early Twentieth-Century China
Wednesday, February 21, 2018
2:30 PM - 4:00 PM
Bunche Hall 10383

Talk by Wu Hung, University of Chicago
This talk studies photographs that subtly disrupt the classification of portraits and self-portraits. These are studio portraits that bear the sitters’ inscriptions. Using a group of images related to the “queue-cutting” movement in early 20th-century China as examples, Wu Hung suggests that when an inscription is imbued with a distinct “I” voice and expresses the sitter’s personal feeling, experience, and aspiration, it transforms the anonymous portrait into a “self-image.” This case study further leads us to contemplate on photography’s role in facilitating such transformation.

Wu Hung is Harrie A. Vanderstappen Distinguished Service Professor in Chinese Art History at the Departments of Art History and East Asian Languages and Civilizations, the University of Chicago. An elected member of American Academy of Arts and Sciences, he has published widely on both traditional and contemporary Chinese art. His recent publications include The Art of Yellow Springs: Understanding Chinese Tombs (2010), A Story of Ruins: Presence and Absence in Chinese Art and Visual Culture (2012), Contemporary Chinese Art: A History (2014), and Zooming In: Histories of Photography in China (2016).

California Community Colleges Technology Center说:留言于2018-02-21 07:08:22(第2条)
Dear Colleagues:

We are all aware of the many initiative/performance metrics at play in the California Community Colleges (CCC). Understanding, tracking, responding to, and reporting these various metrics have been difficult at best. In response to the metrics-related concerns expressed by our CCC colleagues, Chancellor Eloy Ortiz Oakley has initiated an effort to integrate, simplify and align these various metrics. The initiative, led by Visiting Vice Chancellor Omid Pourzanjani, will be conducted through a series of meetings with a representative advisory group to ensure that ample input from the colleges will guide the preparation and recommendation of a simplified set of metrics to the Chancellor’s Office.

The fundamental approach for this work is outlined below:
1. The focus will be strictly on students and their educational journeys from recruitment to completion, not on functional divisions, grants, funding sources, etc.
2. The outcome will be a simplified set of metrics drillable for details. This set of metrics will displace all other student-specific metrics (except for federal metrics such as Perkins).
3. Equity will not be viewed as a separate activity; instead it will be observed across all metrics. Therefore each metric will be drillable by gender, age, ethnicity, first-gen, SES, etc.
4. Metrics will be broken into three categories: access (input), practices (process), and student outcomes (output). Alignment with Guided Pathways and Completion by Design frameworks will also be considered.
5. Number of recommended metrics will be limited to ensure that we focus only on critical measures.
6. Each metric will be closely reviewed to ensure it is valid, viable, drillable, measurable, and critical.
7. An implementation/transition plan will be created for when each metric in the set can be put into production and which ones need legislative work. Extensive analysis and modeling of data will be performed before the presentation of the implementation/transition plan.
Schedule Of Activities
A tentative schedule for the activities is outlined below:
• February 26 at 10:00 a.m. – First statewide webinar
• March 12 – Second meeting with the statewide working group
• March 26 at 10:00 a.m. – Second statewide webinar
• April 23 – Final meeting with the statewide working group
• April 30 at 10:00 a.m. – Third statewide webinar
• April 30 – Final report delivered to the Chancellor’s Cabinet

A whitepaper will be prepared before each working group meeting to provide background on critical issues to the participants. It will include such information as an inventory of existing and legislated metrics, syntheses of national efforts to create statewide community college metrics, and guidelines for developing a set of recommended metrics. The first whitepaper has been published and shared publicly along with related information.
