Southern California Edison and East West Players jointly present a live stage show on "Taking Flight - the Story of Katherine Cheung", the first Asian American female to be a licensed pilot in history. As the nation''s premier Asian American theatre organization, East West Players produces outstanding works and educational programs that give voice to the Asian Pacific American experience.
Katherine Sui Fun Cheung broke racial and gender barriers by taking to the skies in the 1930s as an aviator, and the first Asian American female to be a licensed pilot. She flew with Amelia Earhart and others among the vaunted "99Club", and became an accomplished stunt pilot performing spins, barrel rolls and acrobatics, and participating in long range flying races.
