Safeguarding your health
Wildfire smoke can make anyone sick, children, and adults are especially vulnerable -in particular those with existing respiratory or heart conditions that affect breathing -like asthma and heart disease. The smoke inhalation can worsen your condition.
It''s important to take precautions to stay healthy if you are in an area being impacted by the current fires -notably those with respiratory conditions like asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. It is recommended that you:
• Avoid smoke and dust as much as possible; try to remain upwind from smoke.
• Contact your provider to see if medications should be modified or frequency changed.
• Consult with your provider to see if you should use your quick relief inhaler on a regular basis, if there are fires nearby.
• Check the air quality in your area and call your doctor if you are having difficulty breathing.

Rep. Judy Chu (CA-27) will speak at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, PA on Wednesday July 27th at 5:20pm ET/ 2:20pm PT. Rep. Chu is appearing as part of a speaking slot with other Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Members of Congress. Rep. Chu released the following statement:

"This week, I have the exciting privilege to speak at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in support of Hillary Clinton for President! Since I last spoke at the DNC to support Barack Obama for President four years ago, we have made enormous gains for immigrants, communities of color, and women. But those gains are fragile and would be wiped away by the callous policies of a President Trump. That is why this election means so much. Hillary Clinton is the most experienced candidate for President in modern history, with the temperament and compassion necessary to not only build on the successes of the last eight years, but usher in a period of even greater growth and inclusion. It means so much to the nation that she has invited so many Asian American and Pacific Islander Members of Congress to speak at the convention. Her campaign is inclusive and I am thrilled to be able to speak in support of it this week and through the rest of the election. "This is why I am honored to lead my fellow AAPI colleagues to address how far we''ve come as a community and how having a voice in our government will help AAPIs today and for generations to come."

Hi Guys,
So excited to have the opportunity again to come visit you all with my Chinese University students, if it works for you guys. We will have 18 students, 2 leaders from Northeastern University, also with the group will be myself and 1 or 2 drivers. We would like to request a tour and a presentation from Dr. Jiang. Our arrival time is flexible but was thinking about approx. time of 1:00 PM. We would like to spend the last part of the day giving the Chinese students an opportunity to interact with American students, maybe we can arrange something with ASB and/or Dr. Jiang students. I can plan the activity if needed.

Young Mathematicians Conference 2016
Wednesday July 20th 5:00pm EDT
Applications for invitation and support to YMC are to be submitted online at http://ymc.osu.edu/apply-ymc .
We strongly urge student applicants to invest time and effort into writing their research abstracts since admission to YMC will be primarily based on these abstracts. Due to the tightly organized review process we can not accept any late applications. The online application will shut down shortly after the above deadline and the review panel will begin its work immediately after the deadline.
We have now over 30 volunteer mathematics Ph.D. faculty from colleges and universities from all over the country who will read these abstracts and score them. Invitations to YMC will be primarily based on the ranking obtained from these scores.
DECISIONS & CONFIRMATIONS
We expect to have decisions made on the bulk of invitations a week after the above deadline. Some borderline cases may take a couple of days longer to decide.
All applicants are expected to regularly check their emails in this time period in order to be able to respond promptly to invitations. Invited participants are required to make their travel arrangements immediately after receiving an invitation and complete the online confirmation form within three days of the invitation.
