DR. CHEN CHI-LU'S LEGACY The Ministry of Culture held a memorial service on Dec. 15 to pay tribute to Taiwan’s cultural pioneer and acclaimed academic, Dr. Chen Chi-lu, at the National Taiwan Museum in Taipei. PUBLIC ART IN TAIWAN The 2013 edition of “Public Art in Taiwan” has been released on Dec. 18. ACCELERATE@CERN: OPEN CALL To promote cross-field cooperation in science and the arts, the Republic of China (Taiwan) Ministry of Culture and the European Council for Nuclear Research (CERN) have come together to create Accelerate@CERN TAIWAN. ''TAIWAN INTERNATIONAL POETRY FESTIVAL'' The first Taiwan International Poetry Festival will be promoting poetry from around the world with a series of events, including a film festival, a concert, and a book fair that are set to roll out in December. ''MASPALAW - SAISIYAT ARTIFACTS'' A total of 47 artifacts, including textiles, rattan-woven containers, paper relics, and weapons dated between the 19th and early 20th century, will be exhibited in Miaoli to show the elegance of indigenous Saisiyat artifacts.
''THE LIANG ISLANDERS'' The National Museum of History and the Lienchiang County Government on the outlying Matsu Islands will co-host a special exhibition on the Liang Islanders, the oldest human fossils to be unearthed in Taiwan.
''THROUGH THE EYES OF AUTISM'' A special exhibition featuring 17 line artworks by autistic artist Wu Chi-liang will be held at the National Museum of Taiwan History in Tainan City from Dec. 12 through May 31, 2015.
''KAOHSIUNG INT'L STEEL & IRON SCULPTURE FESTIVAL'' The 2014 Kaohsiung International Steel & Iron Sculpture Festival will take place between Dec. 20 and Jan. 11, 2015 at the Pier-2 Art Center. The biennial festival explores the relationship between industrialization and urban life. ''THE HLA'ALUA AND KANAKANAVU PEOPLE'' To commemorate the formal recognition of two indigenous groups, Hla''''alua and Kanakanavu, the National Museum of Prehistory will host a special exhibition between Dec. 16, 2014 and May 17, 2015.
''THE YEAR OF THE GOAT'' In celebration of the upcoming Chinese New Year, the “30th New Year Prints Exhibition of the R.O.C.” will display 79 prints from Jan. 1 through March 22 at the Taichung-based National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts.
