This conference will address contemporary challenges of health and wellness from interdisciplinary perspectives. Areas of concern include preventative medicine, public health, proactive wellness and the relationships of social and personal wellbeing to health. Disciplinary perspectives include public health, medicine, nursing, pharmacology, nutrition, physical and health education, psychology, social work, sociology and communications.

In contrast to conferences with a specialist disciplinary focus, this conference aims to explore the linkages required for a holistic and effective understanding of social and personal dynamics of wellness and health. We welcome presentation proposals ranging from broad explorations of philosophical, theoretical, methodological and policy questions, to proposals which present finely grained evidence of the connections of health, wellness and a robust society. Participants at the conference will include researchers, teachers, administrators, policy makers and practitioners whose interests range across public health, health sciences, physical education and the social sciences.

We invite you to respond to the Conference Call-for-Papers. Presenters'''' written papers can be submitted for publication in the peer-reviewed, International Journal of Health, Wellness and Society.

If you are unable to attend the conference in person, virtual registrations are also available, which allow you to submit a paper for possible publication in the Journal.

端午之節物風俗

一）禳解祛除之俗
　　五月正值“惡月”，蚊蟲孳生，病邪流行，故禳解災邪是端午節第一大主題，由此衍生了各種趨避惡晦的節俗，如灑掃庭院、懸戴藥草、蘭湯祓禊、佩戴香囊、飲雄黃酒、吃五毒餅、遊百病等。華夏民族向來講究清潔，端午節也是自古相傳的“衛生節”。

　　1.采藥草、懸艾蒲、鬥百草
　　端午插戴花草來源已久。艾草、菖蒲和石榴花是最常用的應景藥草。“清明插柳，端午插艾”“五月五，是端午，背個竹簍入山谷；溪邊百草香，最香是菖蒲。”舊時端午，家家戶戶都會採些艾草、菖蒲懸於門上。認為它們可以驅蟲邪。宗懍的《荊楚歲時記》中載：“是日採艾為人形，懸於戶上，可禳毒氣。” 針灸法，也是用艾草作為主要成分，放在穴道上灼燒。與采藥、采艾蒲等相聯繫的有蹋百草、鬥百草等遊戲，是古人往野外遊藝之遺俗。後來發展成為插花藝術。

　　2.沐蘭湯、佩香囊、纏彩縷
　　以夏至/端午為歲首之俗，今日早已不見於中原。但禮失而求諸野。在少數民族中，則至今仍可見此俗遺風。端午洗浴蘭湯是華夏古俗。當時的蘭不是現在的蘭花，而是菊科的佩蘭，有香氣，可煎水沐浴。《九歌· 雲中君》有“浴蘭湯兮沐芳華”之句。《荊楚歲時記》：“ 五月五日，謂之浴蘭節。”《五雜俎》記明代人因為“蘭湯不可得，則以午時取五色草拂而浴之”。後來一般是煎蒲、艾等香草沐浴。

● 世界各國粽子習俗不同的文化不同吃法
　　端午節吃粽子是中國的傳統習俗，然而，在國外也有不同的吃粽子習俗。
　　日本人在過節時所吃的粽子不是用糯米做的，而用粉碎的米粉做，粽子的形狀與中國不同，普遍將粽子包成錘子形狀。
　　緬甸人也喜愛吃粽子，但和端午節沒有什麼聯繫。他們是用糯米為原料，用成熟的香蕉和椰蓉作餡，這樣做成的粽子酥軟、甜滋滋的，吃時香味撲鼻，令人回味無窮。
　　越南人在端午節吃方形鹹粽。這種粽子是用蝦、瘦肉、鴨蛋黃、紅豆做餡，頗具閩粵風味。還有一種甜粽，是用糯米粉捏成粉團，將椰絲、紅豆或綠豆餡塞入粉團做成的菱形粽，蒸熟之後沾上蜜汁或砂糖吃。
　　新加坡人都很愛花，每當有客人來訪時，主人都會送上幾束花，且還會端來花汁浸染的粽子請客人來品嘗。這種花汁粽子是用綠葉包成多角形狀，只有雞蛋那麼大小，展開綠葉後，由花汁染成淡綠色的米粉精制而成的，色澤誘人，吃起來味道清香可口。
馬來西亞人所做的粽子與廣東一帶的粽子有點相似，除了較常見的鮮肉粽子和火腿粽子等品種外，還有豆沙和椰蓉等幾種粽子，香甜可口，美味醇香。
　　印尼人對粽子餡要求特別講究：有豬肉餡、牛肉餡、雞肉餡，有臘肉餡、火腿餡，還有廣味香腸餡、蝦肉餡、魚肉餡。印尼粽子是用粳米做的，較之糯米容易消化，加上竹葉誘人的香氣，很能引起人們的食欲。
　　菲律賓人粽子是長條形，風味與中國浙江一帶的粽子相同。粽子是菲律賓人過耶誕節必不可少的食物。
　　泰國人在每年4月潑水節或7—9月雨季時吃粽子。泰國粽子以甜味為主，包粽子前，先將糯米泡在椰汁，使之具有椰味清香。粽子餡用椰子、黑豆、芋頭、地瓜等做成，外形小巧精緻，泰國粽子有蒸、烤兩種吃法。

1882 Project applauds the bipartisan introductions of H. Res. 282 and S. Res. 201, expressing regret for the passage of discriminatory laws against the Chinese in America, including the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882. The passage of this Act marked the first time in our nation's history that Congress expressly singled out a group of immigrants for denial of citizenship rights.
"The 1882 Project deeply appreciates the leadership and commitment from the resolutions' cosponsors and will work tirelessly to help Congress pass these resolutions," said Michael Lin, Chair of the 1882 Project Steering Committee. "We are dedicated to educating the American public on the discriminatory effects that the Chinese Exclusion Laws had on other Asian Pacific American communities in the years following the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 and of their significance to all Americans."
The resolutions address a series of legislative measures passed between 1879 and 1904 that severely restricted the immigration of Chinese persons to the United States and violated the civil rights of Chinese immigrants already living in America. H. Res. 282 was introduced by Representatives Judy Chu (D-CA), Judy Biggert (R-IL), Mike Coffman (R-CO), and Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA), and S. Res. 201 was introduced bySenators Scott Brown (R-MA), Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Orrin Hatch (R-UT), Patty Murray (D-WA), Ben Cardin (D-MD), Marco Rubio (R-FL), and Daniel Akaka (D-HI).
"It is long overdue that Congress officially acknowledges these ugly laws, and expresses the sincere regret that Chinese Americans deserve," said Rep. Chu, Chair of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC), in a national press conference announcing the introduction of the House resolution. "The last generation of settlers impacted by this legislation are leaving us, giving Congress a short window to make amends to those who were directly affected."
While the laws were repealed in 1943 in order to strengthen the alliance between the United States and China during World War II, Congress has never formally acknowledged or expressed regret for the pain and suffering endured by Chinese immigrants as a result of the discriminatory laws. In addition to finally providing such acknowledgment, H. Res. 282 and S. Res. 201 recognize the significant contributions of Chinese Americans to the growth and success of the United States.
Rep. Chu was joined by fellow House cosponsors Reps. Biggert and Coffman in a press conference that closed out Asian Pacific American Heritage month on Capitol Hill. The press conference also included in attendance grassroots constituents and national Asian Pacific American community leaders."America's strength has always derived from the principles of our founders and our ongoing struggle to live up to those ideals," said Rep. Biggert.
Rep. Coffman added that the resolution represented "an important step in acknowledging a great injustice in American history when Congress, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, enacted a series of discriminatory measures against Chinese Americans that not only limited their rights but denied them citizenship."
The Senate companion resolution was also filed on Thursday, spearheaded by Senators Brown and Feinstein.

土地造就了很多富翁，中國的兩岸三地是這樣，美國更是這樣，只是很多華人對美國的文化和富翁情況知道得不如中國多。專家指出，在很多的投資中，土地投資是比較容易把握的：一是有事實可供分析，二是可作對比，三是看數字。很重要的是：土地是有限的，不像房子可以建造，產品可以生產；土地還有抗通貨膨脹的作用。土地投資周期，短的為三、五年，長的為十年或更長。
事實的分析，有專家會提供可靠的資訊，而且網上都可以看到政府的公告等等。找土地一定找有發展潛力的，也就是正在成長中的地區。例如：該地區有怎樣的未來發展規劃，可行性怎樣；高速公路、高速鐵路等交通設施的興建規劃中，是否通過這個地區；未來有多少公司計劃遷入、尤其是大公司；人口成長預測……
土地的價格會有差異，選擇時可與周圍和相鄰的土地的位置和價格作分析比較，很容易看出所要購買的土地是貴還是便宜。這也都可以在網上查到，有專人協助。成長路線上的土地增值潛力很大。以加州的硅谷和橙縣為例，1976年，一棟獨立小屋售價2萬4千美元，到1991年，翻了10倍。土地的增值就更高，1976年，一英畝8千元；到1991年，翻了60多倍，值50萬元。
土地投資的好處還包括，在美國買賣土地，客戶權利有保障；不愛打理的人，不用管理，只要等著升值。20年前，台灣一些公司紛紛在加州等地買土地發展，為低成本進入美國市場下打下良好的基礎。現在的機會比20年前更有利，目前美國經濟處蕭條，房地產價格便宜；這為中國大陸公司拓展在美國的業務帶來良機。2千左右元起，就可以買一英畝土地。吸引一些中國大陸有眼光的投資者，到加州買土地，成為牧場主、農場主，等孩子在美國留學畢業，土地已經增值。你呢？

2011年10月10日是纪念辛亥革命推翻压在中国人民头上三座大山从此走向民主的纪念日。中华民族永远不会忘记为了民族的崛起而英勇奋斗的千千万万仁人志士，俗称徐特立先生为母的中国现代文学史上第一女兵作家谢冰莹女士就是中华民族永远的楷模与丰碑！
谢冰莹女士(1906-2000)，湖南省冷水江市铎山镇人，中国现代文学史上第一个女兵作家，中国现代妇女解放和国民革命的先驱，抗日战争时期的女将军，旅美国际文化名人。
她早在湖南省立第一女子师范学校求学,在徐特立先生支持下投笔从戎。1926年她考入武汉中央军事政治学校（即黄埔军校），跟叶挺率领的“铁军”北伐，罗瑞卿是她的排长。30年代初两度留学日本，均因反对日本军国主义侵略中国及溥仪投靠日本而遭日本宪兵逮捕，在监狱受尽酷刑，宁死不屈，幸柳亚子先生等极力营救，才得以出狱。《在日本监狱里》等文是她与敌人抗争的真实写照，表现了中国人威武不屈的精神。1937年“七七”事变后，她组织湖南妇女战地服务团自任团长，在她的号召下无数妇女开赴抗日前线。牺牲在台儿庄战役年仅18岁的湖南常德汉寿女兵刘守玟烈士就是光辉典范。在抗日前线她抱着“救一伤员，就是杀一敌人”的信念亲自救护伤员，她在自己的戎装上书：“不灭倭寇，誓不生还”！表达抗日的坚强决心。她的精神曾感动千千万万仁人志士奔赴抗日战场。谢冰莹女士率先采写过台儿庄战役。她的《从军日记》与《一个女兵的自传》是其传世名作，数十年来先后由大陆和台湾多家出版社出数十余版，还被译成英、法、德、葡、日、朝鲜等多国文字，后者还被拍成电影半个多世纪以来风靡世界经久不息，在国际文坛影响巨大。其散文《小桥流水人家》被收入中国大陆小学语文教材，无数文学作品被编入中国台湾中小学课本。早年与陈天华、成仿吾并称为“新化三才子”；在现代文学史上与冰心、苏雪林并称为“三棵常青树”；与丁玲、白薇被誉为“女性作家三杰”；在台湾及海外华人中素有“女中豪杰、文坛奇葩”之誉。这位亦文亦武的巾帼奇人，曾受到许多名人的赞扬，黄炎培曾赠诗：“投笔班生已自豪，如君不栉亦戎刀。文章覆瓿谁论价，独让从军日记高。”1937年10月，田汉见到谢冰莹，即赠七绝：“谢家才调信纵横，惯向枪林策杖行。应为江南添壮气，湖南新到女儿兵。” 何香凝赠诗：“征衣穿上到军中，巾帼英雄武士风。锦绣山河遭惨祸，深闺娘子去从戎。”柳亚子赠诗：“三载不相见，意气还依旧。歼敌早日来，痛饮黄龙酒。”抗战期间被授予少将军衔。法国大文豪罗曼.罗兰盛赞她是“伟大的中国女性，让世界感动“！
谢冰莹1948年初应邀去台湾师大任教后成为台湾文学继承“五四”传统的领军人物、台湾妇女作家协会的创始人之一和台湾女性文学的主要奠基人，曾获台湾最高文学奖，被称为台湾的“文学泰斗”。20世纪五六十年代曾应邀到韩国、泰国、马来西亚、菲律宾、新加坡讲学或访问，传播中华文化，列入《世界名人录》。她的学生多是活跃在台湾、香港和美国的著名教授和作家。1965年5月9日韩国汉城庆熙大学校长亲自为其偑戴勋章。1974年她侨居美国旧金山，主持《世界日报》的“贾奶奶信箱”，与美国前总统福特、《相对论》宗师爱因斯坦等并列为国际孔子基金会顾问。90年代任美国华文作家协会名誉会长。1990年曾获“实践奖章”。谢冰莹早年她是北方左联发起人与领导者之一，与鲁迅过从甚勤，鲁迅逝世时她写下著名的《纪念鲁迅先生》：“……纪念你，惟有从艰苦的环境里，打出一条血路来，解放被压迫的中华民族，解放全人类的奴隶！”虽然她大半生漂泊海外，却始终爱国爱乡，希望祖国统一、富强。由于特殊的历史原因几经努力终生都没有实现她回魂牵梦萦的家乡。但她写下许多怀念故土的美文，如散文集《故乡》、《故乡梦》、《故乡的云》等,充分表达了她对故园山水的热爱。在海峡两岸和平统一上，她是积极支持者与推动者，认为和平统一愈快愈好。80年代初以后与国内朋友通信甚勤，曾几次想回国探亲访友和参加辛亥革命的纪念活动，均因故未果。
谢冰莹是中国报告文学和纪实文学的先驱者与开拓者之一，被称为 “女兵文学的祖母”。她的作品与国家、民族的命运紧密相连， ” 她一生著作80余种、近400部、2000多万字。是中华民族的唯一，亘古未有的高产女兵作家，是中华民族的骄傲！她的文学作品将是中华民族文化走向世界之瑰宝，二十一世纪将再次掀起轰动世界的“谢冰莹热”！集聚中华民族传统美德的谢冰莹女士不仅属于中国而且属于世界！所以，我期待炎黄子孙学习、宣传、颂扬“谢冰莹精神”，以“谢冰莹”为榜样，时时刻刻、事事处处以国家与民族利益为重，历来以勤劳，勇敢，善良著称的中华民族自立于世界民族之林何愁无望！
2000年1月5日这位划时代的女兵作家，抗日英雄带着她对祖国对家乡无垠的怀念与向往死不瞑目！“如果，我不幸死在美国就要火葬，然后把骨灰洒在金门大桥下，让太平洋的海水把我漂回去”。谢冰莹女士的爱国爱家乡情愫曾感动得我在大洋彼岸无数次泪流满面，我相信凡拜读过谢冰莹女士《乡情》散文者无不为之动容，特别是年老海外游子的感触更深，别有一翻滋味在心头！2007年，其子贾文辉先生按照母亲的遗愿，将其记录着她北伐足迹的第一部女兵文学《从军日记》手稿无偿地捐献给了中国现代文学馆永久保存完成了她回报国家回报家乡的赤子之情！
为了缅怀民族英雄的光辉业绩，激励中华民族精神，教育子孙后代瞻仰学习中华民族永远的楷模与丰碑！响应胡锦涛主席构建“和谐世界”的主张，促进海峡两岸和平统一的进程，我建议当地政府与中华谢氏宗亲联谊总会，谢冰莹研究所共同于2011年10月1日谢冰莹女士诞辰105周年之际邀请两岸三地海内外和世界各国研究谢冰莹女士的专家、学者、英雄的后代与她的桃李及爱心人土进行专题研讨。我认为鉴于谢冰莹女士在台湾和海内外侨界、文学界所具有的影响力，谢冰莹女士的故居列为湖南省省级保护单位是不够的，不足以表彰谢冰莹女士对国家对民族的贡献，不足以彰显中华民族精神和中华民族女性楷模，不利于教育中华民族子孙后代。倘若，将谢冰莹女士的故居列为国家级文物保护单位，不仅具有深远的历史意义，而且是社会文明进步的需要，是时代的需要！胡锦涛主席和温家宝总理，贾庆林主席曾多次论述“文化对于民族振兴的伟大意义”。纵观中华民族上下五千年象谢冰莹女士这样的“女中豪杰”有几多？将谢冰莹女士的故居列为国家级保护单位无论是政治、经济、文化、旅游、对台关系、凝聚慰藉海外僑心和世界各国进行文化交流合作，都具有不可估量的价值与时代意义！因此，特请求中国国务院僑办、台办、中国僑联、中国妇联和主管部门以国家以民族利益为重，顺应历史潮流与民心，将其力荐为第七批全国重点文物保护单位，以彰显中华民族的伟大——文明与进步！
