"Growing Into Governance" by Rich Davis Are you an entrepreneur, looking for external funding? Investment comes with strings attached, are you prepared? Are you expanding your business by hiring additional staff, creating new products, or expanding internal support services? How will you keep them all on track? Learn how to govern your business more effectively Governance simply defines the relationships between those that decide what a business should be doing and those that do the business; from the relationship between business ownership (capital) and management that sets business strategy to internal governance mechanisms that translate strategy into results. While most governance processes follow a similar form, each business that grows beyond the individual entrepreneur should tailor this general form to their own unique situation. Some businesses do this successfully, while others struggle to achieve the desired balance between openness, effectiveness, and economy. This presentation will provide the entrepreneur, as well as established businesses, with an understanding of the purpose and characteristics of governance, as well as essential considerations for establishing effective governance mechanisms for their growing business. About the Speaker: Richard Davis is the Director of the InSoCalConnect International Division's Governance & Compliance Institute. He has more than 30 years' experience working within (and improving) the established governance frameworks of major corporations and establishing practical and effective governance mechanisms within start-up businesses and non-profit organizations. He is a member of ISACA and is in the process of earning their Certification in the Governance of Enterprise Information Technology (CGEIT).
