About the Speaker

Jo Tango founded Kepha Partners. He has invested in the e-commerce, search engine, Internet ad network, wireless, supply chain software, storage, database, security, on-line payments and data center virtualization spaces.

He has been a founding or first institutional investor in AutoVirt, Azuki Systems, Bit9, ExaGrid, StreamBase Systems, Vertica Systems, Virtual Iron (acquired by Oracle) and VoltDB, getting involved nearly always at the company inception phase. Other investments include Ask Jeeves (Nasdaq: ASKJ), Digital Market (acquired by Agile Software), and NextCard (Nasdaq: NXCD).

Jo previously was at Highland Capital Partners for nearly 9 years, where he was a General Partner. He also spent five years with Bain & Company, where he was based in Singapore, Hong Kong and Boston, and focused on technology and start-up projects.
Jo attended Yale University (B.A., summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa) and Harvard Business School (M.B.A., Baker Scholar). He serves on the board of NECINA (New England Chinese Information and Network Association) and is very active with the MIT Deshpande Center. He has served as Co-Chair of his Harvard Business School class 5th, 10th and 15th reunions and is on the leadership team for his Yale 20th reunion.

前幾天到內湖聽一場演講，讓我印象最深刻的是主講者朱平先生，分享如何讓自己做個「快樂製造機」，他談到他每天早晨都會去逛傳統市場，每天都會製造一些快樂給賣菜的老闆們。
比如他買了23元的菜，拿30元給老闆，說「老闆，23算25元，找我5元就好。」這些老闆們反應大致上有四種反應──
第一種：起初非常驚訝，之後非常開心地找了5元，說謝謝。
第二種：老闆堅持找7元，不佔客戶便宜，但老闆很開心。
第三種：是多送點蔥蒜，也很開心。
第四種：是最高竿的反應，「不然我幫你湊30元好了，一共是32元，算你30元就好。」
哇，真是高手，原本是要讓老闆佔便宜的，反過來卻讓客戶多買又有佔便宜的感受，更是個「快樂製造機」。
前日傍晚，我逛傳統黃昏市場時，決定玩一下朱先生的遊戲，暫時改了殺價習慣，想創造點快樂給老闆們。我到一家以前常殺價、討斤兩的攤販前，買了157元的青菜，結帳時，剛好聽到菜販老闆說了一個笑話，非常好笑，我非常愉快地說：「老闆，你好幽默，你的笑話很好笑，157元算160元，這是160元，不用找了。」老闆笑了，說：「這怎麼可以，不然妳還需要甚麼，我送妳。」老闆便送我一大塊嫩薑。後來到了另一家買甜不辣29元，拿30元給老闆，我說：「阿伯，29元算30元，不用找了。」老闆有點訝異，一時之間反應不過來，還是找了1元給我，我笑笑地把1元還給他，說不用找，他趕緊又多放了一塊
甜不辣給我，從他驚訝轉而高興的表情，我知道我做到了。
回家的路上，我嘴角掛著微笑，哼著歌。睡前在日記裡寫下：「算一算，我多花了4元，賺到了甚麼？
1.賺到了好心情；
2.賺到了老闆的笑容；
3.賺到了老闆的謝意；
4.賺到了老闆的友誼；
5.賺到了一塊嫩薑和一塊甜不辣；
6.賺到了愉快的晚餐。」
當我們決心要當個「快樂製造機」時，就會感染對方，形成一個良性的影響，讓更多週遭的人像我們一樣，成為「快樂製造機」。

Most Chinese universities have the so-called 5-year plans with vision and mission of the university, development strategies to be adopted based on SWOT analysis. But most such plans are broad and general in nature and lack well thought-out, operational measures to support the implementation of the strategies. Your experience as illustrated in your ppt, therefore, is very helpful. Thank you very much.

Since 2006, our Chinese culture development center of the China Press start working with the China Overseas Exchanges Association, and present lots of cultural events such as "Colorful Yunnan", "Festival of Spring","Talk by masters" and ect.

This November, with supports from the Sichuan Provicial government, we will again, proudly introduce the "Splendid Sichuan" event to Los Angeles.

Dr. Armin Selbitschka will present his research on silk road archaeology and conceptions of the Beyond in early China titled “The Exchange of Prestige Goods along the Silk Road from the 2nd through the 5th Century AD.”

Armin Selbitschka is Assistant Professor of Sinology at the University of Munich. He is a part of the Academic Council and a Course Coordinator BA Sinology. He is a specialist in intercultural exchange primarily to the Yuan dynasty, Chinese art and archaeology, archaeological methods, old and ancient history of China, and historiography.

API DEMS STRATEGY

Democratic Party leaders today laid out their strategy for getting Asian Pacific Islander Americans back to the polls for this crucial election. Just as the API vote was critical in electing President Obama in 2008, according to the leaders, the same voters have to show up this Election Day. The Dems’ message is also being targeted to younger API voters.
The strategy was outlined during a teleconference organized in Washington, D.C., this morning with representatives of the media.
“The APIA community was critical to our victory in 2008 and will be this year,” said DNC Chairman Tim Kaine. Some 3.6 million API voters cast ballots in 2008 – 600,000 more than the previous presidential election. In addition, 10 percent of all first-time – read “young” – voters were Asian Pacific Islander Americans.
The difference now, in this midterm election, is that Republicans are more energized to turn out than Democrats, according to most polls and political experts. That’s why “these outreach efforts are critical,” said Kaine, explaining that the Democratic Party has launched meetings throughout the country, and particularly in critical states such as California, where the governor’s seat and one Senate seat are at stake. Right now, GOP gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman is running slightly behind former Gov. and current Attorney General Jerry Brown for election to the state’s highest office. On the other hand, Senate candidate Carly Fiorina, a Republican, is gaining momentum in the Senate race against Barbara Boxer, a Democrat. Both Republican campaigns have been energized by a growing statewide GOP API coalition.
Kaine and U.S. Congressman Mike Honda, DNC vice chair, said Democratic grass roots efforts are going on, particularly in California, but that party leaders need to insure that the Democratic message resonates with the API community.
“This year, the goal is to define clear choice,” said Honda, referring to what he calls “the heavy lifting” that Democrats in Congress have engaged in despite blanket opposition by the Republican Party. That so-called “heavy lifting” was responsible for a comprehensive health care bill and assistance in the form of tax credits to small businesses, among other things, said Honda.
One provision of the Obama health care plan approved by Congress, for example, includes provisions prohibiting lifetime limits on individual coverage, denying health care to children and denying coverage on the basis of pre-existing conditions.
Honda also mentioned the President’s proposed Recovery Act designed to get people back to work and assist small businesses as crucial in turning a failing economy around.
“This November, you can vote for the Recovery Act or choose Republicans who oppose the Recovery Act,” he said, chiding the Republicans’ much heralded “Contract With America” launched last week. Said Honda, of the contract: “It will take us back to the failed policies of the Bush era.”
The press conference included Belle Hong, chair of the API Democratic Coalition, who called the Democratic effort a “call to action to everyone involved in the 2008 election.” Democrats “delivered” in the presidential election, she said. “Now we need to work together so we can continue to deliver.”
Earlier Kaine pointed out: “We can’t assume small numbers will make no difference.”

各位好！
这是我最近发表在“文学城”（www.wengxuecity.com）“海外原创”版上的一篇文章，曾引起广泛讨论，你感兴趣可一看，忙，不感兴趣请绕过——95集新《三国》值得你一看吗？（也说新红楼梦）
说实话，我初看新《三国》电视剧是奔着高希希执导并花巨资在横店置景，以及《三国演义》这等经典鸿篇有生之年多读一遍也无妨，还有该片雄踞“百度”热门电视剧前三甲等理由去的，当时并不知有95集——开口便说这么多，我也会迟疑着不敢去啃这块硬骨头的。
爬山涉水，秉烛夜游，不离不弃，持之以恒，费时一月有余，看完95集新《三国》的刹那间，我脑壳中蹦出了“致命的吸引力”这个词。毋庸置疑，新《三国》是颇有吸引力的，原因盖出于——
第一，故事情节起承转合吸引人。你对“三国”的老故事或熟焉能详，或斑驳朦胧，高希希依凭他高超的叙事天赋和娴熟的设埋伏、制悬念、搞延宕本领，使新《三国》依然具有很强的“吸睛（吸金）率”。笔者从未曾给如此巨大雷人的电视作划分过“段落”，现斗胆一试，不当之处，有请原创版网友雅正。
A 起势，虎头也：该剧一开头便是曹操杀董卓不成仓皇出逃，惊天鼙鼓动地来，极富戏剧张力，吊足观众胃口，这和罗贯中《三国演义》开篇混混沌沌写黄巾起义，王扶林版电视剧《三国演义》慢吞吞“桃园三结义”作开张大相径庭。随后就演到曹操错杀吕伯奢跳出那句惊世名言“宁叫我负天下人，休叫天下人负我”了，把那些个前因后果、心理诉求交代得一清二楚、严丝合缝。三国戏本来女人就少，高希希当然要拿吕布、董卓、貂蝉的素材大做文章啦，除了演貂蝉的陈好年纪稍稍偏大外，所有的阴谋秘计、感情纠结，都拍得非常细腻，真真个精彩纷呈，耐人寻味啊。
B 过渡，猪肚也：这就写到“挟天子以令诸侯”的曹操和菜鸟初飞的刘备斗智斗勇斗权谋的胶着状态了。这期间有些戏，譬如曹、刘不出场的章回，略显琐碎和繁复，又譬如刘备的仁义复仁义几让徐州，太烦文缛礼了，还有些腥风苦雨的战争场面，我没时间泡蘑菇，就用“快进键”go go go了。笔者以为高导拍这些戏耗费太多精力了，本可以精炼简约些的。同时要提醒一下，虽然该剧战争场面的拍摄还无法与《魔戒三部曲》相媲美，但铺张到位，场面浩大，富有层次，让曹操一战定乾坤的“官渡大战”还是要细看的，也莫错过冷兵器年代大搏杀的经典画面：赵云力破曹仁八卦阵，骏马在乌黑坚硬的盔甲阵上驰骋，惊天地兮泣鬼神！
C 高潮：新《三国》的重头戏当然要看诸葛亮出山。刘备为何要“三顾茅庐”拽孔明做军师？还不是尝到了徐庶为他略试韬略转败为胜的大甜头！而徐庶匆匆离别时抛下的那句“我与诸葛或凤雏，真是寒鸦比凤凰”更让刘备如梦初醒。诸葛亮果然没有辜负刘备的厚望，一场联孙抗曹的独脚戏演得有声有色，谈笑间，樯橹灰飞烟灭，从此三分天下。这一部分的戏有“三好”：一是赤壁大战的来龙去脉拍摄得比吴宇森的《赤壁大战》更妥帖、更合理、更清晰；二是诸葛亮和周瑜亦敌亦友、明争暗斗的关系描摹得拉骨带血、入木三分，活脱脱是一部中国千年文韬武略史的高度浓缩；三是林心如饰演的孙小妹、于和伟装扮的刘备结亲的戏演得鹣鲽情深，颇有嚼头。
D 转折：看客以为新《三国》高潮已过，此后就没有什么看头了，但事实恰恰相反。入川后初建的蜀国歌舞升平、文恬武嬉，刘备更以为天下无敌，又要公报私仇，来为冤死的兄弟张飞报仇，所以根本不理会诸葛亮的劝谏，擅自出兵东吴，结果被江东少杰陆逊一把火烧在彝陵的大荒林，尤如另一场“赤壁大战”，坐失“匡扶汉室”的良机，饮恨白帝城，形势急转直下，给观众的心灵造成极大的震撼。其后就展开诸葛亮身体力行自己提出的“汉贼不两立，王业不偏安”主张，七出祁山、兴兵伐魏的漫漫征程了。
E 结局，蛇尾兮？豹尾兮？新《三国》最后看什么呢？就看诸葛亮和司马懿这对冤家对头如何诠释“知音乃天敌”的深层意蕴了，这些个“空城计”、“火息上方谷”的大戏真是道高一尺魔高一丈，精彩绝伦啊。至于在司马懿边上添置了个曹家卧底大美女静姝，有网友认为那是导演的哗众取宠之举，笔者不敢苟同，这可是戎马倥偬的苦寒之地的一缕温馨暖色呵，她既可起缓冲作用，又可让司马懿的角色更加丰满。并且，全剧是以司马懿在静姝坟头惺惺相惜、自言自语结尾的，你可以说它余韵未了，也可以说它穿凿附会，到底怎么样呢？看官自己定夺吧！
不过有一点可以肯定，由于笔者提到的全剧“过渡”部分编导已然透支精力的原因，拍摄到最后，就有点力不从心，删去包括诸葛亮“七擒孟获”在内的诸多重头戏，给人匆匆收场的感觉了。
第二，人物性格刻画丰满博好感。这里要稍稍荡开一点笔墨说闲话。布洛认为，审美不但要有距离，还要掌握分寸，那就是“距离的尺度”——“距离不足”多半由于欣赏者的过失，“距离过度”则由于艺术品的缺陷，也就是说，一件艺术品让人觉得太熟悉，固然不行，太陌生，一副拒人千里之外的样子，也不行，最好要有几分亲切又有几分新奇，不太熟悉也不太陌生。把这些意思应用到中国几大古典原著改编的电视剧研究上，则最合适不过了。高希希比拍摄新版《红楼梦》的李少红似乎要多懂一点“审美距离论”，前者聪明地把握了“锐意创新”的尚方宝剑，把新“三国”里的人物打造得既亲切又新奇，后者则略显笨拙地执掌着“忠实原著”的一柄竹尺，拘泥于丈量小说“红楼”中那些个人事的细微末节，由于功夫未到家，又把原本读者熟悉的人物描摹得支离破碎了，很有些陌生了，大家都说“看不懂了！”
那么，高希希是如何塑造新“三国” 既有“几分亲切又有几分新奇、不太熟悉也不太陌生”的人物形象的呢？笔者以为一是“守牢原型”，十分尊重而不是肆意颠覆读者心目中的“三国”人物原型，所有中国民间老百姓对老“三国”的固有认知，诸如“仁”（刘备）、“义”（关羽）、“礼”（刘备三顾茅庐）、“智”（诸葛亮）、“信”（桃园三结义）以及人物的一应形神都尽量恪守，决不僭越，并不像李少红摄制《红楼梦》搞什么“黛肥钗瘦”，让观众大跌眼镜。二为“深入拓展”，深入拓展而非任意涂抹新“三国”人物的精神样貌，全面发展而非古板恪守新“三国”人物的性格趋向，等等。于是乎，这几分熟悉根植于华夏民族的古道热肠与忠肝义胆，那几分新奇来源于当代人的精神烛照和心理剖析。
先说一代枭雄曹操。现在我看到的曹操是奸臣又是雄主，是史上性格最复杂多变而非脸谱化的人，他奸诈又坦率，虚伪又真诚，残忍又仁慈，小气又大度，嫉才又爱材，多疑又自信，一以概之，就是“大奸似忠，大伪似真”，尽管人们经常看错他，但他从来不怕。【注解1】高希希借曹操之口说出颇有现代意识、最能打动观众的一句话便是“乱世中只配强者谈仁义，弱者只能被抛弃。”
再说仁义之师刘备，刘备是以仁义立身的，又往往因仁义而误事，他一直在“又要仁义，又要徐州，”“ 又要仁义，又要西川”的痛苦深渊中挣扎，得川后，灵魂深处爆发革命，方知“仁义”是可分“大仁义”和“小仁义”的，从而完成了“主公”向“君王”的美丽蜕变。
次说英姿勃发的孙权，这老弟打仗不怎么的，用人却是一流的，在周瑜边上委屈求全，最后还弄懂了“君王的心胸是委屈撑大的”硬道理。也说仙风道骨的诸葛亮，虽然料事如神，但也经常有“不知道危险来自何处”的深层忧虑，这种凡人化而非妖化的描写很出彩，而他对刘、关、张三兄弟之间微妙关系的处理，又在在考验了他的生活智慧。顺便提到周瑜，此人虽然心胸狭窄，嫉妒心强，常有“既生亮，何生瑜”的喟叹，但大敌当前，既能容得下诸葛亮，又能与朝中“政敌”鲁肃冰释前嫌，性格并不刻板单一。
第三，台词对白有文采明白易懂。有的网友说新“三国”的台词欠文采、弱智，我看这种批评太过苛刻了。和同期热播殷桃主演的《杨贵妃秘史》满嘴现代胡话，以及李少红的新《红楼梦》半文半白不看字幕不甚了了相比，新“三国”的台词对白真的不错了，请看客自己判断吧。
第四，启用宏大明星阵营招人爱。这里不得不说高希希要比李少红睿智，他启用的影星非常过硬，像陈建斌（饰曹操）、于和伟（刘备）、陆毅（诸葛亮）、张博（孙权）、林心如（孙小妹）、陈好（貂蝉），以及扮演关羽、赵云、周瑜、鲁肃的演员全是国内目前一线拼搏的，他们的演技各有千秋，但娴熟老辣，演啥像啥，自然就把李少红择用太多名不见经传的稚嫩新演员给比下去了。另外，每一个角色出场时，高希希总要不厌其烦地打出字幕，唯恐观众混淆角色，而李少红的新《红楼梦》就没有想到这一点，扮相迥异的人物纷至沓来，你都不知道谁是谁了。
总之一句话，笔者看新《三国》是天天有念想的，要一口气看完的，而看新《红楼梦》则有一搭没一搭，中间不断被新插进来的好片打断，到现在才看到十几集。怎么样，大家都会试着去看看新《三国》了吧【注解1】有关曹操的评价笔者曾参考过易中天《品三…
